Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Shipped faster than others and fit perfectly. It has to be pushed/pulled in between 2 vertical frame pieces (a tight/snug fit), so I couldn't do it alone without a jack -- used my neighbor instead and the 2 of us had no trouble bumping it into place.

Great hitch. Well made!

After unboxing,
I noticed an area where the matte black paint was rubbed off down to the base metal of the hitch. I cleaned this area and used black, metal rust proof spray paint and corrected it. The finished product is unnoticeable but more importantly, it won’t rust.

I’m going to paint the 2 bolts going into bumper black. It’ll give a cleaner look to the install.

Great product and I’m very satisfied with my purchase!

This was an easy install. Watch the video. The trick for snaking the hitch bolts is key. That was the most time consuming part. I was able to complete the by myself, it would have been really easy with a second person and a lift but I improvised with a couple milk creates and clamps.

by:
Toyota Tacoma

This is my second receiver for a 2021 Tacoma from etrailer. Excellent quality and fit twice. The first Tacoma was a lease and I left it on the truck never thinking of purchasing a used 2021 Tacoma, the reason I purchased a second receiver. The two bolts you need to feed into the frame can be interesting, first went well second one not so easy.

by:
Toyota Tacoma

Perfect fit and I installed it within an hour. Snaking the carriage bolts through the frame was a small challenge but patience pays off.
Like that the receiver part of the hitch is supported to the frame, my last Tacoma the receiver did not have this extra support. More heavy duty then the picture appears. Very pleased with purchase.

by:
2021 Toyota Tacoma

The video makes it look like it's going to be difficult to do. I had it installed in 15 minutes. The most frustrating part was the bolts in the tube but if you get the right angle it goes in smooth. Quality is great.

by:

Easily navigated website. Super fast delivery. Great product that looks and Fit like it came from the dealer! I will definitely use them again for anything trailer related.

by:
2017 Toyota Tacoma

Was able to install it myself without much trouble fishing the bolts through was tricky was going to give up but watched the video and had to tilt the spacer just so great price

by:

The key to getting the fish bolts through the holes in the bumper, is to work the flat bolt retainer up at angle with a screwdriver through the hole it is going in as you pull the bolt through it. I spent an hour with retainer laying over hole and trying to get bolt to stand up and drop through. That won't work. Watch the video right before you attempt this and do it exactly like the guy in the video. You will definitely need a dead blow hammer. The hitch fits tight but I kept jack stands under it as I adjusted it to bolt it to the frame.

by:
2023 Toyota Tacoma

Fast delivery.
It's good that you tape
the hardware to the hitch because the box arrived with 2 large holes in it and if the hardware was in a loose package it probably would have fallen out of the box.

by:
2022 Toyota Tacoma

Took this to my garage peeps to install- they showed me how poorly it was designed with the fishing nuts and bolt provided. And I saw how useless it was when it was up on the rack. Other reviewers have mentioned this same issue.

As I don't intend to haul anything heavy like a trailer, it will be enough to hold my kayaks or bikes.

by:

Ease of installation and works

by:

The hitch was delivered as promised; installation instructions were concise, and install went well. I plan to have it help anchor rear bumper step, and provide protection to back of vehicle.

by:
2023 Toyota Tacoma

I had an extra hour today so I put it on truck. Heard horror stories about fishing the plate and bolt but did both in less than minutes.
Still need to torque the nuts but very happy with the product and install.

by:

Fits perfectly and installation was easy. Great option if your truck needs a hitch.

by:

Product is very good quality and it looks great.
I was able to install it myself (and with the help of a jack to keep the hitch in place while I put the screws in)
I had trouble with the fishwiring process initially. It has to be done in a very specific way or it won't work. My advice: Read the manual at least five times and just follow the exact instructions.

Overall, I highly recommend this product.

just fine, it was easy to put on and has worked out great.

by:

Extremely difficult to fish/thread the two bolts through the frame. Other than that, I think the hitch is well constructed and will be great.

@DonS We're glad you're happy with the # e98905 hitch!

by:

It was a tight fit but in the end it fit perfect! This thing is heavy duty too. I couldn't have purchased anything better. I recently purchased a universal reese hitch and it was not working out at all. Thanks etrailer for the perfect hitch receiver!

  • Difference Between the Curt and etrailer Trailer Hitch for a 2022 Toyota Tacoma
The main difference between the Curt # C13264 and the etrailer # e98905 hitch receivers lies in the matte black powder coat finish of the etrailer hitch versus the traditional glossy finish of the Curt hitch. I recommend the # e98905 because the matte finish will hide dirt, scuffs and dings better, and many people just like the more rugged look of the matte black finish better on their vehicle. Like you pointed out, they are both made in the USA, have the same towing capacities and bolt-on,...

  • 2022 Toyota Tacoma Correct Hitch and Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer
Yes, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98905 uses 1/2-13 x 1 3/4 carriage bolts to fit the existing holes in the bumper beam on your 2022 Toyota Tacoma. I've attached a link to the instructions as well as a clip from the instructions to demonstrate this. If you plan on doing some towing, then you'll need wiring and a ball mount kit to complete your setup. You need the Curt T-Connector # C56349 for the standard 4-Way trailer wiring connection or the OEM Replacement Wiring Harness #...

  • What is the Maximum Tongue Weight of the etrailer.com Hitch e98905?
Tongue weight has to do with the downward pressure being put on the hitch. With the etrailer.com hitch # e98905 having a maximum tongue weight of 900 pounds, it can technically handle a bike rack or cargo carrier combined with bikes or other gear weighing up to 900 pounds. However, hitches are typically rated higher than the vehicle and the maximum tongue weight of the vehicle should be checked before loading to this weight. This can easily be checked by looking at the inside door jamb...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For A 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Double Cab
We can get you what you need. For a trailer hitch for the 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 my recommendation is the etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e98905. This is your standard 2" receiver and it has a 6,000 lb GTW and 900 lb TW weight rating. I really like the matte black powder coating that they use on this hitch. It will do well to resist scratching and chipping. It also blends nicely with the underbody of the vehicle. Although, most of the crosstube will be hidden behind the bumper. I went ahead and...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Choice for 2017 Toyota Tacoma
Of the available hitches for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma, my choice would be between the etrailer brand # e98905 or the Curt # C13264 Class III hitch. The frame mounting flanges for both hitches extend inboard versus to the outboard which means the hitch is less likely to be damaged during transport and would fit better. Both hitches have a 6K towing/900 lb tongue weight capacity, which is well over the capacity of the truck itself. The Curt and etrailer brand hitches are functionally identical,...
