Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Super easy install. Took 45 min beginning to end. Install tip was i wedged a screwdriver between the exhaust hanger and the hitch to hold it up while installing the nuts. That will make more sence when you're installing it. Clean install look. Didnt even have to jack the car.

Exactly as expected. It is use for a bike rack and a utility trailer and it handles both wonderfully.

by:

Excellent quality, fit and video instructions. I installed it on a 2024 Outback Premium. I had also installed one on a CrossTrek. I use it for a 1up bike rack. In the Outback case the hitch reset under the bumper is just enough to fit the rack fully folded, leaving 3/16 of in inch clearance (see photo). A little tight but this keeps the rack unabtrusive. Bikes fit nicely.

etrailer hitch purchase was easy to get right due to their great informative website ….. their narrative videos are helpful in the selection and installation process.
Never would have guessed there was a choice with hitches …. DT73RR was the preferred choice ….. No body/bumper parts had to be removed and the tow pins are still accessible which was a BIG MUST HAVE for my tie down points …..
Company follows up with order that shipped immediately.
Will be ordering T-Connector light Harness to complete my towing capabilities.

Hitch arrived with bits sticking out on both sides of the box. No visual scratches after unboxing.

Was able to complete the install in an hour 20. Would have gone quicker if I had assembled all my tools and didn't doubt myself about the heat shield and take the hitch off and put it back on once.

Had the outback up on my incline ramps and the height was perfect for working and was able to manage the install by myself.

I did use a magnetic tool grabber to help pull the ends of the fish wire out of the frame tube. Feel this saved me some time.

I have previously installed the "under the bumper" version on my 2019 and liked not having to take off and replace the plastic with this one.

It so easy, I'd volunteer to help my neighbor install one on their car!

by:

Installed it myself on a Subaru Outback while the car was on the ground. I balanced it on a floor jack to help lift it into place. The video instructions gave me the confidence to get the job done. Lubricating the exhaust hangers is key to getting them off easily. Nice and sturdy product.

Just wanted to drop you a quick email to let you know that the trailer hitch you provided fit like a charm for my Subaru Outback! I used a floor jack to make the self-installation super smooth once I was able to figure out how to make the installation easy. It worked like a dream! The installation instructions were clearly written and thank you for providing the necessary aids to help with installing the bolts into the frame.

2023 Subaru Outback Wagon

I ordered the Draw-Tite Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver because it mounts directly to the frame (as opposed to some of the other manufacturers, which require you to remove the bumper for installation). The only reason I gave the product a 4-star review is because it was packaged poorly, and the edges of the hitch had to be repainted. Unfortunately, the box was badly damaged, and the hitch was not protected properly prior to boxing. As a result, a large percentage of the powder coating was scrubbed off. etrailer gave me a partial refund so I could purchase some paint to touch-up the bare spots.

The hitch receiver is holding up well and seems to be enduring the elements without rusting. One bit of advice to other Subaru owners. This product, once installed, sits 3 to 4 lower than Subarus OEMfactory installed hitch receiver. With that said,my dirt bike carrier will drag across the pavement when exiting dips in the road and when pulling out of most driveways.

We installed the drawtite class III hitch on our 2024 Outback Touring XT. XT stands for extra tailpipe!
This made the install a little trickier but we got through it. We hit a snag when we pushed a bolt and bracket back into the frame. After fishing unsuccessfully for 30 minutes, we found the solution. We went in from the top. Meaning we opened the lift gate, took the top tray off the spare tire, pulled the left flat panel and black styrofoam piece. There are 4 circular black, reusable “stickers”.
Pulled a couple off, shown a light from below and moved the bracket and bolt back into place!
Fitting all four tailpipe rubber mounts were a challenge.
All in all, glad it’s done and it looks great.

Hitch came in great shape! Got the car apart the fist time and the hardware was wrong??. I called customer service and they shipped me the right one very quickly. Hitch went on easily with minor issues. The trailer harness was literally a plug in job works perfect. On the Subaru wilderness I was able to use a straight hitch. Over all very pleased.

by:

The trailer hitch was installed on a 2022 Subaru Wilderness. I did it alone on the ground. I found that removing the mufflers made the job very easy. But I spent a lot of time getting to that plan. It fit perfect, I am very happy that it did not reduce my ground clearance. And look is part of the car and not an add on.

by:

I like how the Draw-Tite hitch is tucked back under the vehicle. I have installed the Draw-Tite QSP trailer hitch silencer in hopes of quieting the bike rack for which I bought the hitch. However the silencer makes the hitch more visible. The install was not hard and was able to install by myself. The install video was very helpful from etrailer. Didn’t really need the instructions that came with the hitch other than referring to themfor the torque specs for the bolts. Only thing I was disappointed with was the paint. It was chipped off the hitch to bare metal in a few places. Not sure if it it’s painted or powder coated. Not eTrailers fault, think it’s more of a quality control issue from Draw-Tite. As stated in their install video, just check to make sure you won’t have any clearance issues as this hitch does sit back from the rear bumper and could be a problem for some applications.

by:

Great hitch, packaging less than protective. Box was torn and ripped where corners of the hitch punched through the packaging. Few spots required repainting to protect the exposed metal prior to installation.

The shopping experience at eTrailer.com is far better than what I could imagine. I ordered a hitch for my 2024 Subaru Outback several months back but left this project for later due to other priorities. When I decided to start, I realized I was missing the hardware. Honestly, I am not sure if I misplaced it or was missing from the beginning, but when I reached out to their customer service, they immediately shipped new hardware. This over-the-top customer service experience sets eTrailer far above all others. If you think about it, all internet merchants sell more or less the same items. etrailer not only has tremendous prices, but also goes above and beyond to satisfy its customers. If you need a trailer hit for your vehicle, you cannot go wrong with this company.

by:

From start to install this has been the most pleasurable experience with a retailer. The website is easy to understand and order from. 3 days later here is the hitch. The installer I used from their website D&R RVService phoned me back within 30 minutes and set up installation for today at 8. Right at 8 they were there and a more pleasant experience I could not have asked for. Thank you to everyone involved in this project

So grateful for the videos! I’m terrible about reading instructions so the video was awesome (I am by NO means a handyman). I did this job by myself in about an 1.5 hours. I didn’t have a car jack or anything. I found it best to lubricate the rubber hangers with Dawn dish soap spray; it worked like a charm. I let the exhaust hang all the way down to the ground and had enough room to work. I did have to improvise and use some old Amazon boxes to lift the receiver on one side while I bolted down the other. Having a lift may make it easier, but it isn’t necessary. I’m very satisfied!

Katrina D.

Well Derek, you sound pretty handy to me. We have all needed to improvise but I have not heard of someone using old boxes to assist them in installing their hitch. Who needs a lift? I want you on my team.

the draw-tite max is freakin' awesome! super easy install, (i took it to u-haul and they installed it for me for $75.) installation took about an hour. super easy, no headaches or struggle for me!

by:

Hitch fit very well and was fairly easy installation.

by:

The most difficult part of installing this trailer wiring kit was removing all of the junk I accumulated in my rear compartment to access the connector harness.

Once I did it only took like 3 minutes to completely install and put the floor back in place.

It works flawlessly, but here's a little hint - do not allow your trailer 4-pin connector to be stored outside without a rubber insulating boot on ot to prevent corrosion or wasps from making a mud nest inside it. I use aluminum foil wrapped around in and dielectric grease.

Hope this helps.

2022 Subaru Outback Wagon

In my option this hitch is way too short for my 2022 Outback. When mounted the receiver sits at least 3" under the rear bumper while other receivers I have had on other cars are even with the back of the bumper or even protruding a bit. My fold-up bike rack barely fits. I bought a Curt hitch from etrailers a few years ago for my 2016 Outback and it sits about flush with the back of the bumper. So if you have a 2022 Outback the Curt is probably a much better choice than the Draw-Tite.

Subaru Outback Wagon

Installed myself in the driveway using ramps to lift rear of Outback. Instructions were good and I also watched the eTrailer video before starting. Since my Subaru is only two years old, I removed the muffler instead of just dropping it down, that made it much easier to access the heat shield for removal and installation of the hitch was also faster. Great quality product, delivery was quicker than expected, arrived in good shape. Very pleased!

by:

Great Draw-tite product. Installation took 1.5 hours start to finish. etrailer.com was stellar with better than on time delivery and absolute spot on video instruction.

The hitch is on and wire, life is good.

by:

Thank you for the Video and instructions, I could not be happier with the way it went in and how it looks...easy install. I can pull my trailer, use my bike rack and use my step to tie down the kayaks. A+A+A+ for Draw-Tite and etrailer team.

No issues one year in... Heavily used to transport bikes on a rack and occasionally used to tow a trailer on my Subaru Outback.

by:
2020 Subaru Outback Wagon

Hitch arrived quickly and packaged well; as usual. Enclosed instructions are comprehensive enough, but together with the video, anyone with average+ mechanical skills shouldn’t have any problems.
I used jack-stands and a floor jack to facilitate. 2 people would be ideal.
