LED Display

The LED display on the TriFlex is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

To change any of the settings, press the silver mode button on the front of the brake controller and which mode you are currently on will show on the LED display. When you're on the setting you want to adjust, use the black rocker switch next to the mode button to adjust it up or down.

Gain Adjustment

Gain control lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes, adjusting in increments of 0.5. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up. Typically, the gain is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes. To get more power to your brakes, press the upper rocker switch. To decrease the gain, press the lower switch. When you make your adjustment, the gain setting will show on the LED screen for 10 seconds and then go into sleep mode.

Load Control

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control on a scale of 1 to 9. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. Load control can get the braking power to your trailer faster and with more intensity so that it doesn't push your tow vehicle forward. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting by pressing the upper rocker switch. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting by pressing the lower switch. You can alter the setting to suit your driving preferences or to improve handling based on changing road conditions or varied trailer loads.

Pinch-Trigger Manual Override

The TriFlex comes with a easy-to-reach, pinch-trigger manual override, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just push in the trigger. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Safety Features

The TriFlex offers key safety features to prevent damage to various components of your towing setup. This starts with built-in protection against shorts and positive and negative power reversal, as well as continous diagnostic checks to alert you to any potential problems as they come up. To minimize the drain on your vehicle's battery, the TriFlex will automatically go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sleep mode will turn off again the moment you press the brake pedal.

Curt TriFlex NEXT

Quick Installation

Automatic leveling means you can mount the unit at any angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:

20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications

30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications

See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Curt TriFlex NEXT brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The TriFlex uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

Arrived as planed and was much smaller then my old clunky one. The custom cable harness was easy to install. Finding a flat spot to mount the controller took the longest to find the perfect spot. I gave a five stars because every was as it said. (Plug and play)

by:

Excellent product. Easy install. Customer service was exceptional with real-time communications every step of the way. Highly recommend e-trailer for any of your trailering needs.

by:

Excellent product, easy installation just as described. Good quality as expected from E trailer.

by:

The product I ordered was not available. There was a suggestion for another product, without the full knowledge that there are multiple other products, and I was only given one choice. It is what it is, if I knew of options, I would’ve made a different choice. Not a great company in terms of knowledge and service

by:

The control works great. The reason for knocking off a star is that the control rattles whenever there is a vibration in the truck. While annoying, it doesn't affect the operation.

by:

I have not used this device yet but I have installed it. It looks kool. I hope installation orientation doesn't matter too much.

by:

The service and speed of delivery has always been great, thank you E Trailer.

Never a problem with etrailer

  • Troubleshooting OverLoad Code on Brake Controller With Trailer With New Wiring
It sounds like you have bad trailer brake magnets on your trailer. Having a bad magnet can cause the problem you described and based on what you mentioned it would be the most obvious issue. I attached a help article that details how to troubleshoot trailer magnets.

  • Troubleshooting LED Display On Curt Triflex Brake Controller Continually Flashing In Cold Weather
It sounds like your brake controller is catching a signal on the brake controller output wire in a different way when it is cold. This can be due to corrosion or even a little additional moisture in the connection. The flashing LED display is not an indication of your Curt Triflex brake controller # C24VV going bad. If it were going bad, you would have that continue after the vehicle is warmed up as well. You can most likely solve the issue with a little sand paper or steel wool to...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Triflex Brake Controller Displaying Numbers When No Trailer Is Connected
Your Curt Triflex # C24VV should not display anything but a single dot when the trailer is not connected. You are getting numbers when your apply your brakes because there is a draw on the brake controller output wire. The controller sees that power draw as a trailer being connected. I recommend you clean your trailer connector on your truck as sometimes dirt or corrosion can cause a small draw from the other pin functions. You can use sand paper, steel wool, or even an old toothbrush...

Here's my breakdown for what you need: Trailer Hitch - The Curt # 13364 is a good choice for a class 3 hitch. It is confirmed to fit your vehicle and can tow up to 4,000 lbs. To install the Curt Wiring adapter # C51515 in your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado you will need to hardwire it under the dash. To be sure that the wire bundle you found under the dash is the correct set of wires I would check the white tag for any indication as to what each wire is for. The first thing you will want to do is have the error codes showing up on the vehicle cleared by a mechanic. When a vehicle throws codes like that they stay in the computer memory so disconnecting the controller won't stop the error messages from appearing. It does sound like something may not have been hooked up quite right but it could also be an internal issue with the controller (more on that below). To do this you will need to use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 and connect to the blue output wire on the brake controller output. Brake controllers, like your Curt TriFlex # C24VV, aren't necessarily vehicle specific, but the plug-in wiring adapter harnesses are. The correct one for your 1500 is the Curt # C51453 that you referenced. This will plug into the port under your driver side dash and allow you to easily install and remove the controller when needed.

You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118578. • Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex Brake Controller that Flashes 1.0 With No Trailer Connection
This is a common issue when there is corrosion built up on the brake output pin of the 7-way. What this does is cause the controller to sense a slight amperage draw which confuses it into thinking a trailer is connected. The other thing you can try is unplugging the controller and plugging it back in. Sometimes the Curt controllers just need to have a hard reset to function normally.
