Today on our 2012 Scion xB, we're going to take a look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar roof rack. The crossbar number will be RRVA137B-2. The Series Legs will be RRRLKVA, and the clamps and pad will be DK152. Now, I already have the first one already on our vehicle. Going to show you how we install the second one. What we have up here, we have our crossbar, we have our Series Leg, then we have our clamp and pad here. We have our covers to cover up our Series Legs.
We have our end cap, plus we have our tool to lock the end cap, and the Rhino tool itself. Now I have one part already on, I'm going to show you how to put the other part on. Per instructions, I'm going to make a measurement of 11.5 cm, so I can center our leg. First I need to go ahead and put on our pad, and the pad, the arrow should be pointing out, and the arrows on here are also going to be pointing out. When I mean out, it'll be out going toward the back of your vehicle. I'm going to put this on like so, it pretty much clamps on. I'm going to go ahead and add this on, like I say, it slides into the little T-slot here.
Just going to make sure I have it straight, slide that on. Make my measurement to 11.5 cm. Then, I'm going to go ahead and tighten it up with our Rhino tool. That's tight. I'm going to add in our clamp. What we've got to do is take off this bolt here, slide this in there.
Go ahead and start to turn it. Now we're ready to put it on our vehicle, so I'm going to open up our doors. I'm going to pretty much put this on over to the other side, get this side over here. Now what I have to do is, between the two crossbars, our measurement is going to be seventy centimeters. I'm going to go ahead and make that measurement now. It'll be from the middle of here to the middle here.
I'm going to go to the other side and do the same. Now I can start tightening it up. We're just going to take our allen wrench, here, start to tighten this up. As this gets tight, the little blue handle here, if you can see, has a little curve in it. Once it starts getting tight, its actually going to turn almost straight like that. I'm going to start on this side, do a couple of turns, then I'm going to go on the other side. I don't want it to start pulling from one side, so I want to make sure each side gets evenly tightened up. Continue to tighten on this side here, we're going to make this nice and snug, go back over here. The one things about the Rhino roof rack, you'll also have all your accessories, you can find on our website, such as bike racks, ski and snowboard carriers, even kayak carriers also, and all other accessories. I'm pretty much just getting tight, so it's about that time for me to go ahead and stop. That's pretty tight, so I'm going to go ahead and put our end cap on. Our end cap, it already has a lock on it, so it's going to be good, we can leave it on our roof. We're going to put on our end cap here, like so. With the key we have, we're going to turn this. If you have any accessories loaded into the T slot itself, we can put it on there, lock it up, and you can leave it on your vehicle at all times. We're going to go ahead and close this up, go to the other side, continue to finish this one up. Put on the end cap, here, go ahead and lock that up. Take our cover, put that in, and now we're ready to go. That's going to complete our look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar roof rack on today's 2012 Scion xB.

These heavy-duty, aluminum crossbars work with Rhino-Rack legs to create a sturdy roof rack. The square bars include built-in C-channels for mounting Rhino-Rack heavy-duty, contractor-grade accessories.I’ve had this rhino rack for over 3 years and it’s been excellent on long road trips to the ski slopes. A year after my purchase, I realized that I was missing the plastic coverings that attached to the end of the bars and called their customer service to resolve the missing pieces. I was impressed with their quick response and seamless delivery.
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
Very good product the installation instructions are spot on very easy to install it's a two person job though. .I really love the way this looks on my scion xb
This has been a disaster, and terrible experience from the start. Original product Rhino roof rack ($188.00) misrepresented for sale, even called and was told all parts were included as "Open Box" item. Received item with missing parts and mismatched parts, then ET sent wrong parts (Legs) causing having to order these cross bars ($192.00) to fit parts sent (Legs). Now my $300.00 BougeRV ski rack - mounting base plates won't fit the crossbars. Still waiting for return label for original item so I can get my refund of $188.00. Three weeks later, still dealing with problem. I do appreciate Shawnee and EDW for their efforts in follow up service attempts.
I am stuck on part 7 of the setup. The instructions do not clearly state the measurement for cutting the bar strip pieces. It says to refer to the DK Specification sheet, but there's nothing clearly labeled as such within my package. Can you please tell me the exact measurements in cm needed to cut the bar strip pieces for the rhino rack 2500 series euro style roof rack on a 2009 toyota corolla.Thank you for the help.
Great product, fit was spot on with correct vehicle specific parts. Etrailer
was fantastic to work with. Great communication and feedback, worked through a small problem with positive outcome. Will definitely purchase from them again, their customer service department is top notch.
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
Tricky to rivet tracks onto car with a manual riveter but once done, a great solution for the car with ease of bar removal. My only regret was going with the square bars which result in notable increase in wind noise.
High-quality, sturdy rails, but noisy. There was a pronounced and audible whistle driving with these racks at any common road or highway speed (with the rubber inserts installed across the top). I have since replaced these rails with the Rhino vortex aero style (change of vehicles and the HD bars did not fit the new car). Having used both types several times, I would recommend the aero style over the HD if you have the option.
Product installation instructions were fair, and that is the worst thing I have to say. I havent put anything on the rack yet as I just installed it, but I gave a good tug on the bars and they are SOLID. The product came in a reasonable amount of time, and the feedback for etrailer is that I got followup emails at each step of the process keeping me fully informed right up to the message asking for feedback.
Bottomline: etrailer is a great business to work with, and this product seems to be good too.
I love the racks, instructions were understandable, one of my end caps came in bad, it can wiggle off after locking but I emailed etrailer and they arranged a replacement quick with rhino rack, pretty nice of them, comes with rhino rack decal and just have to decide where to put it, out my bike up and took it for a test drive and it was very nice, I love their package because it comes with locks and way cheaper than the competitors, very satisfied
My Rhino-Rack Aero 2500 roof racks fit solidly on my 2007 Honda Civic EX. I was really impressed with the construction and strength of the rack system. Also the versatility of the 'legs' with a swivel pad allow them to fit any roof pitch perfectly. The clamps are so solid, nothing could knock these racks off. I added a paddleboard attachment and went surfing today. The black racks also look great with the black trim on my silver Honda. Great product at a much better price than Yakima or Thule.
I struggled to find a good cost effective roof rack for our Honda Hybrid, for hauling kayaks. etrailer by far had the easiest web site for ordering, with quick feedback on delivery. Instructions from Rhino were not the best, but had it complete in an hour. Fits great, and is secure! Thanks. Have ordered many products from etrailer, they are the first place to go for items. Great service!
The rack seems excellent… unfortunately the measuring strip dimensions in the directions were wrong for my 2013 Corolla. So by the time I went to put it on the car they were already cut so after making my own measurements the strips are all pieced together. And now I’m not confident my measurements are good… but I know the directions weren’t right because the clamps wouldn’t even reach the door jam.
Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.
Very impressed with this rack system so far! Was hesitant at first based on some reviews talking about wind noise, but with the windows up I can hear almost no difference. The noise isolating strips are inside the rack after removing the end cap, so be sure to give them a good shake before assuming they are missing (as per the instructions). Very sturdy and assembled easily.
The roof rack is great, just pretty pricy, by me standards.
My only problem with the whole experience was that the roof rack comes in there separate packages. In my order, one package was omitted, which created some confusion. I had to go back to the company and request that the 3rd package be sent.
Otherwise I'm happy with the purchase.
I responded to a previous request fro feedback, so I'm not sure why I'm being asked again, but . . .
I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!
Can't really comment on the bars because they didn't arrive but the legs got here. Called Justin and he is getting them shipped, just wondering why it takes so long to get here. Picked on 8/12 and delivery is set for 8/23.
Just as advertised. A perfect fit.
This kit is easy to slap on and sturdy enough to balance my skis and snowboards. I recently used the Rhino Rack on a three hour drive to a ski resort and had no issues.
The rack was of good quality, solid and anchored well to the car. Putting it on was moderately difficult. The instructions were generalized for different types of cars and that is where the difficulty arose. There were certain quirks about my Corolla that required me to stop and think for several minutes about how something was supposed to be done. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. The pictures supplied were helpful but not complete. The thing that I really abhorred about the rack were the security screws. They were like a hex bolt with a strip of metal running down the middle (you will know what I mean if you buy the rack). One of the screws was not quite right and I stripped it trying to tighten it. Not sure why they made it that way but that is the one thing I would change about the kit, ditch that security screw. Overall I would recommend the rack and would buy another if the need arose.
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
This is my second Rhino-Rack. They go on very easily and hold the bikes/kayaks and even an extension ladder very well....thanks for a great product
Great product. I put the removable racks and brackets on my car as soon as I received them in the mail and have not removed them since. They are used everyday to hold my Yakima rooftop box.
