Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).
Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.
With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.
With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.
Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

I went through a good bit of anxiety after trading my 2013 F-250 for a 2018 F-250 due to the height of the 2018. I did not pay close enough attention to bedrail and rear height and I was beside myself sick over it so this review might be a bit long while I explain my journey.
I replaced a 2013 F-250 4WD with a Reese Pro Series 16K square tube slider universal mount with a 2018 F-250 with OEM pucks. I pull a 2015 Prime Time Crusader 315RST. I measured, I had boards with levels, mock up on hitch height, I read every forum and article I could find and still I was worried I had made a big mistake. Finally, I called eTrailer and talked to Molly and she had, (or went and got) plenty of answers as I had narrowed it down to the B&W BWRVK3370 20K Companion Slider and the Curt A12. I decided to not go for the โthe most expensive is betterโ and went with the Curt A12 saving me about $300. The 20K B&W was the smallest they had and with an F-250 I would never really come close to that weight before I passed the GCVW limit so it made no sense. The Slider base for the Curt says it is the same base used up to 24K so if I ever do I can just buy the new head I believe.
Ordered on a Saturday it arrived on Thursday at noon. No issues with shipping at all, the hitch came in 2 boxes strapped to a pallet. No damage like others experienced. Assembly took me about an hour because it is heavy and awkward to line up the slider linkage but all in all nothing too difficult. I set the hitch head mount at the 2nd from the bottom (18 inch) hitch height because I had measured the truck and camper and was worried about having 6 inches of clearance camper to bed rail. Turns out on a 2018 F-250 4WD at the 18-inch level on the hitch I have 8 inches all around and 7 inches at the highest point on the tailgate. After I installed the hitch and put the camper on the truck and applied weight I got about 3-4 inches of squat, which made the already rear high truck sink to near level. I do have more nose high attitude on the trailer than I had before but it was not terrible. I moved the height adjustment down to the 17 inch (lowest) today to lessen the nose high attitude by another inch and I have 6+ inches clearance still.
The hitch. Like I said before I had a Reese Pro Series 16K slider and it was noisy as hell. Kingpin clunk starting and stopping, creak at every bump and turn. I put the Curt A16 in and took the trailer for a drive with the rear slider window open and heard nothing. Absolutely nothing. No start/stop clunk, no creaking, nothing. Hook up was very easy and the interlaced kingpin jaws make visual check very easy. Operating the slide takes a bit more effort but it worked fine and locked securely. It did not latch back to maneuver and then back again to towing automatically like the video without jostling the handle a little but I am sure it will once broken in and I grease it a bit more. The puck system was easy to adjust and make a solid connection to the truck with no play. I could not be more pleased with the hitch.
Cons- The hardware was packaged like one would expect and it was all there but the bolt for the center connection of the slider linkage was different than the handle and passenger side joints. It is too small and caused a lot of play. I used it anyway but it allows play in the handle and not firm for unlatching. I will replaced it today and now it works great.
eTrailer is now my go to store for trailering supplies.
2017 F250 curt A16 slider Ford prep pac kage
Ordered the curt A16 5th wheel sliding hitch with Ford puck mounts. The unit arrived several days early and I assembled and installed the hitch into the truck in just under an hour. Super easy assembly and installation. Thanks etrailer for a great experience.
Heavy, but easy to assemble and install. Great service from etrailer.com from order to shipping. This is a heavy slider, so moving it out of the truck bed is challenging. Works as advertised. Good choice for short-bed pickup trucks.
I pull a 36 ft. 10,500 dry weight RV (min 1900lb. pin weight) with a 2019 F-250 w/6.7 diesel engine.
My experience is that this hitch eliminates any "chucking" (or clunks) and feels more secure than with the previous "gate" style hitch I used. I don't here any noise while towing, including on poor pavement and even off road.
I have not had to use the maneuvering slide feature of this hitch with the RV attached to date.
The hitch is a bit heavy for me to remove from my Ford "puck" under bed system. I enlist the help of capable man to help me remove the complete unassembled hitch for the winter so I have a clean bed to use.
Thank you Teresa J at etrailer for making my purchase effortless!
I LOVE my sliding hitch. Prior to this, I had a standard hitch and it was difficult to make some sharp turns with my 5th wheel RV due to a short bed in my pickup. The sliding hitch has solved this problem - I haven't had a turn that made me cringe thinking the camper would hit the cab!
The only difficulty I have had is pulling the release to set the slide in motion has been a bit tough, but I think it will become easier the more it is used.
I would encourage anyone with a 5th wheel RV to buy this type of hitch versus a standard.
Fifth wheel jaws grave a lot of slack, when stopping and staring trailer slams forward and backwards. I bought the slider due to having a short bed truck and never used it 1 time in a little less than a year. Hitch also rusted within a few months. Hitch is unbelievably heavy, it required at least 2-3 people to remove or install. I have sold the hitch and installed the Reese goose box on my fifth wheel and like it so far. I love not having the heavy hitch in my truck all the time.
Product is solid and secure. As noted in other reviews, it seems to clunk at times with the rubber bushings.
I have had a few issues with the jaws closing securely. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to successfully get the jaws to lock.
I have a shortbed truck and this setup was said to be a must. My trailer's nose is scalloped (2013 Arctic Fox) and I have yet to need to slide the hitch to the rear, including tight turns etc. Now, what little space I had is wasted on this set up.
We've used this hitch for a year now and it has performed flawlessly. We put it together in the truck bed as it's pretty heavy. Once together you just drop it in place in the pucks built into the bed of the truck and flip the 4 handles. We still haven't had an occasion to use the sliding feature of it and we have had the trailer turned pretty tightly. I would easily recommend this hitch.
I think I am ready to write my review of the Curt 16K 5th wheel slider hitch assembly.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. My truck is a 2020 F250 with OEM Puck installed. The assembly process did not go as well as expected. I could not install all the bolts in the assembly due to residual metal filing left in the thread hole. The screw went about half way in, I tried to clean it out with a brass brush and lubricate but this did not work. I contacted etrailers where I purchased the hitch. They were responsive to my issue, and forwarded the problem to Curt. Curt did not respond back after a few days so, I went to an automotive store and purchased a 10 mm X 1.5 modified tap and cleaned out the threads. If you plan to purchase a Curt product you should also be ready to buy or have available taps to clean out the thread holes of your purchase.
Good product. Fits my truck and works well pulling my 12,000 lb 5th wheel. The only complaint is the rubber wedge does not hold up against chucking of the hitch. It is already degraded and needs replacing. Otherwise a solid hitch.
been towing with this hitch for a year and it is a great product. I bought the slider for my F350 shorted but with my 5th wheel, the slider isn't needed.
Installed as described. Relatively easy. Arrived from etrailer intact.
The slide really helped in rehitching when angles are not optimal.
I love this product. It is very stable and easy to use. Feel very comfortable with 5th wheel connected to this unit. I recommend it!
Suggestions would be: make it easier to lock/unlock. DEFINITELY recommend if being installed individually to use some sort of nut lock "glue", or make sure you check each time you stop and make sure nothing has come loose. We made a trip back from SD to Tx. When we got home, one whole nut had come completely off and all but one, were prettyloose. VERY SCARY!!!! Didn't take pictures because we were exhausted after a 25hr, straight thru drive. Don't know if having it professionally installed would've helped. We had a professional install it for us.
Awaiting new truck for installation, the sliding section is 24k and Hitch is 16k. Assume that is normal
Like the style and ease of installation, BUT cannot get rid of jerk motion when I stop and start
Unit works like a dream, never an issue. Goes in and out of my truck with ease.
it is a very good product
The Curt A16 5th wheel w/ R16 slider is a great looking hitch. I received the hitch on May 11, 2023, replacing an older Reese 15K hitch with a slider lock bar. It was easy to finish the assembly and install. I immediately took my fifth wheel out, using the new hitch with the dual jaw locking system. The ride was amazing. The RV, which weighs approximately 10,000 pounds, loaded, did not buck or rattle, and responded perfectly to the turns, acceleration and deceleration with no issue. It was if there was nothing behind me.
The only issue with the Curt A16 is the height. At its lowest setting, the nose of the trailer was up too high. However, by raising the tongue of the RV to its highest setting, I was able to remedy most of that issue. I am looking forward to my trips this year with the new hitch!
So far it works great. Only pulled in a short distance and backed it up into my driveway. Make sure you have help lifting this. Very Very heavy. Directions were average but got the job done. Love the extra turning radius on my short bed F250. Make sure all the parts are there. The handle to release the king pin off the hitch was not in the packaging. The box that the hitch and slide came in were all in tacked and looked good. Emailed etrailer and within a few hours they sent were processing the order for the handle. Arrived in 2 days. That's great customer service.
Looks like a received a returned hitch. All my hardware is missing. And still waiting on one box. The sliding rails. Starting off to a bad start.
I purchased both the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs - C16120, and Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Qty 4 - RP58093 for my F350 SD 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed. I'm pulling a 30' Retro 5th. Wheel and at times I pull my tandem axle UTV Trailer (Double Trailers) . I already had the rails installed in my truck, this fit right in and I used the new Pins and Lock Plates for securing to truck. I have pulled all over from South Dakota and the Northwest. The Hitch has performed Flawlessly. No bucking, nor clunking. Very quiet and smooth ride. I would recommend this set up to anyone for convenience of Hook up and Disconnect, Excellent towing, quiet, and the security of the lock pins. I use Disc locks to prevent access for bolt cutters.
First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

Slider hitch works well for our setup. Add a little grease and it is quiet when moving out of or into tow position.
