Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

I received the order yesterday and installed everything the same evening, Order was well packaged and the part fit as it should, Fairly easy install and the Curt wiring harness kit was plug and play. As a technician, I appreciate quality parts and a product that meets expectations. Thanks

Works great with the Nissan Rogue and my 5x8 trailer. Curt does provide a connection so that is awesome as well. Made it super easy to install.

The connectors did not fit, they are flat. Mine are square so I had to reorder using a different product number for my Nissan Rogue Sport.

Very satisfied with each hitch/light kit I have purchased from etrailer.

2016 Nissan Rogue

I bought this as part of bulk order of a trailer hitch, electrical harness and adjustable ball & mount. Fitting the electrics was more involved than I had anticipated due to the amount of panels that needed to be removed from the rear of the Nissan Rogue but once I'd identified where the fixings were (two visible and two behind covers on each side) then it was straight forward. I didn't see the need to run a +ve lead for permanent connection to the battery since the lights aren't needed when the ignition isn't on so used a 10A fused plug into the the 15A fused accessory socket in the trunk. I'd be interested to know if there's a reason for running a lead to the battery which then increasing the drain on the battery while the car is not running. I dropped one star because the instructions for removing panels could have been a lot clearer and I spent quite some time working out how to remove them without breaking anything. Now that it's fitted, I'm more than happy with the result.

A powered taillight converter will draw its power from a direct connection to the vehicle battery, but will gain its switching information via its connection to the vehicles taillight harness or tow package connector. Years ago, taillight circuits in vehicles used higher gauge wire and had enough capacity to handle the draw of the vehicle taillights as well as those of a trailer. Now that the price of copper has gone through the roof and vehicle manufacturers try to save all the weight they can, the taillight circuits use smaller gauge wire that can handle the load from the vehicle taillights, but not much else. Drawing the power directly from the battery also serves to isolate the tow vehicles sensitive electronics from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. Connecting the converters power feed anywhere other than the battery or where the converters manufacturer recommends can leave your vehicles electrical system exposed to possible damage.

Very satisfied with my experience, even before I purchased my hitch and wiring harness. The promptness of the shipping and delivery was first rate. I have ordered hitches in the past online from other vendors, and in those reviews, people mentioned how bad the packaging was. NOT SO with etrailer, packaging was superb!!!! And the online videos of both the hitch and wiring harness installation was terrific. Thank you for a terrific experience. Next time I am in need of anything related to this, etrailer is my first choice to go to!!!

by:

Good price, good instructions, works gr eat.

by:

The harness was easy to install and works great after a year of being installed. I watched the installation guide and followed the details instructions that came with the kit. The install went very smooth I put a towing package on my wife’s Nissan Rogue. The ride is much more comfortable than my truck so she accompanies me much more often now. I haven’t had to worry about a thing. Just hook up and go.

by:

Arrived on time. Good instructions. Still working great after a year! 2nd vehicle outfitted with etrailer parts.

Nissan Rogue

The wiring harness is probably as good as any other. Installation in my Nissan Rogue was fairly simple until I had to run the power wire the full length of the vehicle in order to connect to the battery. This is required of every wiring harness I looked at before ordering the Curt unit. However, AFTER I had finished the installation I checked the specs on a power plug located at the back of my particular model of Rogue. It is rated for 10amps, just like the Curt assemby. I suspect I could have just connected to this power plug and had a much better installation experience. I have tested, but not actually used this harness yet.

Typically, I do not review products because I purchase them after researching and I know what I am buying. That being said, the trailer hitch and related items that I bought from etrailer came as expected. The real review is for etrailer. I searched for my trailer hitch and came across etrailer and watched the videos for my SUV, a 2014 Nissan Rogue. I watched several times and then made my purchase. The items arrived and went on the Rogue EXACTLY and as EASILY as was shown in the videos by etrailer. Everything was right on!! It was like having them there to give me a hand, sounds cheesy, but it's true. Should the need arise again for trailer parts, I will buy from etrailer. If anyone asks me where to go for trailer parts, I will send them to etrailer. This was a great experience. (say this with an Arnold Shwarzenegger accent) I'll be back!

Its great! Just used it yesterday, it is working exactly as it should be. Great product, great instructional video.

Attempted to install like the last several curt harnesses I purchased for my vehicles. Typically you plug into the brakelights and run the cable down to the receiver. This particular design calls for extensive removal of the interior side panels to reach a harnesses that feeds the exterior light harnesses. Also, there is no available method to run the cable down to the receiver without cutting and splicing. The method that curts video showed was to allow it to hangout of the tailgate door. I did not install, ended up tossing it in a parts box since it was a couple of months before I could get-a-round to installing it.

This harness does store inside the cargo area until you are ready to use. Some people drill a hole in the trunk of their vehicle to fish the wire through then hardwire it back together with butt connections. If you attempt this be sure to use a grommet to keep fumes and the elements out of your vehicle. If you do not want to do that, here is the wiring harness that installs outside the vehicle: item # HM11143645.

by:

The installation video was very helpful — I was able to install quickly and even pretty easily. The harness connectors fit my vehicle exactly as intended. One slight drawback: having the converter on the driver’s side makes it a little inconvenient to run 12v from the battery, as the easiest wiring path from the engine compartment is with the hydraulic lines on the passenger side.

This was my third etrailer electrical kit install (having completed two Ford Escape kits earlier in the day).
The previous reviews and videos gave me a good idea on what to expect when I installed this on my wife's 2017 Nissan Rogue. By no means are these super easy, with the most difficult part being the auxiliary power wire that must run up to the engine compartment/ battery, but they work well and do not require any major modifications. The only thing I was not happy with was the fact that the plug end is located inside the trunk space and must just hang out the rear door seal when in use. Otherwise, it remains coiled up inside. Not ideal.

The wiring connectors were exactly right and it worked the first time. As usual with etrailer.

E-trailer provided links to some very helpful you-tube videos. I strongly recommend watching those before you purchase or install. Then you'll know how much time you'll need and what tools you may need to purchase.

I installed this on my Nissan Rogue. It's a fairly involved process requiring removing several plastic panels in the trunk area and also crawling under the car to run a wire up to the engine compartment (to connect to the car battery). The kit comes complete with all the hardware you need -- wire ties, connectors, double-sided adhesive tape, etc.

All in all I am pleased with how the install went.

Yes, the Curt Hitch part # C13204 that you referenced has been confirmed to fit your 2014 Nissan Rogue Select and would be an excellent hitch for you. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you would want the Curt Wiring Harness part # C56033. • Why Does Trailer Wiring Require Black Power Wire to The Battery
Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of trailer lights so the wiring harness requires a power wire to the battery. Some vehicles do have higher rated circuits that can handle powering the trailer lights without a power wire to the battery. You may not have an issue since your lights are LED and draw very little power but If the custom wiring harness available for your vehicle has a black power wire I do recommend to attach it to the battery. It is unlikely the Curt Wiring Harness # C56033 is to blame. It is compatible with LED lights and is going to send power to the 4-way regardless of the type of lights you have installed on your trailer. Considering the fact that it worked with your incandescent lights before, I'm sure you will find it has power if you use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or even and LED tester like the Curt # I26.
