A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

how will tork lift tie downs look on my truck

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

how to find the right tie down for my truck - custom camper tiedown

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

The drivers rear didn't get built correctly. the hole to put the tie done is missing. I had to drill a hole into the tie down so I could use it. Didn't notice the problem until I went to put the camper on my pickup. The other three are fine.

Perfect fit on Ram 3500. They have now traveled across the country and back to MI. A very positive way to secure our truck camper. It never moved

Working with Etrailer has always a been a good experience for me. They are the first place I look when it comes to my towing needs due to their competitive pricing, free shipping, and excellent customer service. I've purchased receiver hitches and towing accessories for my trucks, lights for my camper and parts for my car trailer - If something is back ordered they are good at keeping you up to date with your order status.

This is a bit late but all the products are holding up well, thanks.

by:

Robust. Easy to install. Only issue is that when not in use the tie downs rattle due to excessive amounts of play in the mating parts. Perhaps a UHMW shim/sleeve between the male and female mating parts would alleviate the issue. I just ended up removing the male end when not in use. However doing so brings up another problem which is the female end fills up with dirt and mud. To alleviate that problem plastic plugs/caps needed to be purchased. I just install/remove the caps each time the tie downs are used.

2008 Dodge Ram Pickup

Thank you so much for the well crafted tie downs. I installed 3 of the 4 at a friend's car shop with few problems. Your videos were a help in general understanding with the written directions helping for specifics. The 4th tie down will have to go to an auto shop, as the gas tank is snug against the frame. The star washers were a little weird. The star pattern on the inside ring seemed to be pointed in one direction only and wouldn't bite on one of the bolts. Fortunately, this was a bolt that we could access from the other side to jam to prevent turning (with much trial & error). We chose to use one of our stock lock washers on the next one to prevent that from happening. This would have been tough if it happened on the fished in bolt, we were lucky.

by:

Installation on the drivers side of my 2005 2500 diesel was not as east as described. The tank is very close, perhaps 1” from the frame rail making it almost impossible to insert the bolt, washers and backing plate through the holes. These items need inserted in order to pull them through the frame. I needed to insert wedges between the tank and frame to make enough room. This concerned me as I did not want to puncture the tank. If I was unsuccessful with the wedges I was just going to use a longer bolt that went through the entire frame rail. I’m not sure if this would have provide the same strength, but it would have provided a solid anchor. I’m sure these will perform, but they are extremely pricy.

2009 Dodge Ram Pickup

I just received half of my order and the quality looks nice. My problem is with etrailer. I ordered the tie down for my camper from them because the website said they are in stock and that they would be to me in plenty of time to install for my trip. After I recurved my package I realized the order was incomplete and only one half of the tie downs were there. After over an hour of waiting on hold and dealing with customer service I was pretty much told that it was my problem and out of their hands because they arranged for the other tie downs to shop from the manufacturer. Now I find out that the product is out of stock with the manufacturer’s day I won’t receive it for at least 10-14 more days. Which is after my trip that I need these for. And the worst part is that they’ve already charged me for the complete order and left me with no option to correct the problem other than paying an extra $200 dollars for another product and an extra $128 in expedited shipping fees to get it in time. They did off to split the shipping cost with me but customer service manager I spoke to on the phone was rude and condescending and did not offer any viable solutions. I have been a long time customer of etrailer but will not be purchasing from them again because of this. Buyer beware!

by:

I really like these, they are so much better than ratchet straps for my slide in camper. definitely recommend, easy to use, if you have the right tools, installation is not so bad.

2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

2006, Dodge 2 wheel drive, w/ dual rear wheels. This product is fool proof. Installation wasn't too bad (2 1/2 hours for all 4), but I blame my tools, right? Shipped quickly, matter of fact, arrived a day early. No doubt it'll hold our much larger, newer camper VERY securely and give me piece of mind on twisting mountainous roads and desert cross winds. Love them. Thanks etrailer.

by:

I was very surprised to see the package from etrailer on my door step within 2 days ,just what I ordered, thanks for the prompt turnaround on getting my correct tie downs delivered. The return tie downs are on their way back to you. thanks Ron

by:

The front tie downs were almost impossible to install if you followed manufactures instructions.

by:

Very good customer service and great product ...pretty simple to put on especially the passenger side..the driver side was a little trickier fishing the wire through to the larger hole but with the right needle nose pliers it was easy too...I would definitely recommend them...

2008 Dodge Ram Pickup

I have purchased several things over the years from E trailer always been good experience. As for these tie downs they came quick in fact just 3 days but to be fair I haven't even taken them out of the box yet.

by:

Great product, easy to install, and I received them as advertised. I kicked in for the 2 day shipping, I ordered them on Monday, got them on Wed. morning, and installed 'em on Thursday. Thanks to the video on etrailer's sight, they were very easy to install. I love it when a company does exactly as advertised. The next time I need anything RV related, etrailer will be my first stop. Thanks etrailer.

  • Recommended Camper Tie Downs for 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed
I recommend using the TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs # TLD2101 and # TLD3109, which are the perfect solution for your 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 8 foot long bed. The TorkLift hitch will allow you a bolt on installation with no drilling required.
