Hello, neighbors. Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at the Yakima SKS Lock Core for the Yakima Racks and Carriers, specifically number A143. Now folks, this does replace or add one, quantity one, SKS Yakima, or Same Key System, the cylinder core to your system and allows all your Yakima products to be keyed alike. It does fit key number A143, sold separately. You can see the engraving right below my sticker there, A143.
And it's got a nice top there for the key to go into, and all the rest of the core features as well. Very simple product. Now, one thing I wanna point out, folks, is that you do need what's called a change key, or control key, to replace these cores. So that's basically a tool. I'll put the item number on the screen.
It is sold separately. And the way that works is it looks like a keyed blank, but it's actually a tool. It only goes into the core when it's unlocked. So again, it's not a master key, it's not some miracle key that's gonna unlock everything. So don't think anything like that, please.
Simply, when your core is unlocked, that control key allows you to insert it, and thus insert this whole core into the product and then it lets it pop out with this staying in place. So basically, from what I understand, it's a little longer than the regular keys, and it goes in there. It's just a tool. It allows it to set in place. Once you take the control key out, then you still have to lock or unlock the core.

SKS lock cores allow all of your Yakima products to be keyed alike. Includes 1 lock core.These replacement cores are helpful for keeping the expensive racks attached to your vehicle. When removing the plastic insert that these replace I broke off a small piece which caused inserting the lock core to not sit properly. It was a bit difficult to see the small piece inside but eventually I got it out and everything worked fine. Only 4 stars because these seem a bit pricey for what they are.
The people (Sal and others) at etrailer.com are the real deal. Through no fault of their own, their was a hiccup in the shipping from the manufacturer of my order directly to me and the guys at etrailer bent over backwards to make it right. Products arrived and installation of my rack went smoothly.
