Note: When using this slider, your hitch head will not adjust to the lowest height setting.
Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Curt S20 slider for the A20, the A16 and the E16 fifth wheel trailer hitches. Now this slider is what'll provide the clearance that's required for your shorted trucks to turn safely at slow speeds when you're maneuvering. This is designed for use on trucks with beds shorter than eight feet and it's not recommended for use on truck beds shorter than six feet. Total amount of travel this will get you is 12 inches front to back. Now basically, when you're towing a fifth wheel trailer your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your trucks rear axle.
However, at slow speed you can use the slider to slide the fifth wheel hitch with the trailer towards your truck's tailgate, pass the rear axle creating enough space to keep your trailer from hitting the cab of your short bed truck. This slider here is designed to work with the Curt A 20, the Curt A 16 and the Curt E 16 fifth wheel hitches that are rated from 16,000 pounds up to 20,000 pounds. I want to pop up an insert to show you what those hitches look like. That's the hitch heads that'll drop right in here you bolt it to here. Now this slider does mount to industry standard above bed base rails that are in your truck bed.
If you notice, this will include the pins and clips needed for installing it to the rails. And what's nice is this will automatically latch in both directions so you only have to exit the truck once. Now I am gonna demonstrate that now without the hitch head in here the hitch head gives it some weight and makes it move a lot easier. It might not move as easy me demonstrating it but I'll still want to show you how this will move. It does slide nice and smooth.
So first thing you wanna do is just pop out this pin and clip that holds the handle locked and then you take your handle, push your handle all the way down. That'll release the slider, you can see here. So then to go that 12 inches back towards your tailgate to gain the clearance. You can see just like that, that's how it'll slide. When you get far enough you notice that handle pops in, locks in the place.
The holes line up and you can put your pin and clip back through there and then do all the maneuvering you need. When you're ready to get back on the road to tow All you have to do is again release it. That'll release this and then this will slide towards the front towards the cab. Once it gets far enough locks in the place your handle the holes line up take your pin and clip, put it through there and just like that, you're locked in, you're ready to go. The lever arm you can see here is very easy to reach and use, and it is a quiet design. It does eliminate lot of the chucking. It is constructed of a durable carbide powder coated steel and the gross towing weight capacity on this is 20,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Curt S20 slider for the A20, the A16 and the E16 fifth wheel trailer hitches.

Not a big deal went to hardware store got nuts and lock washers
Looks to be built solid, time will tell when I have a chance to pull our 5th wheel.
I originally purchased the R16 slider for my A16 hitch 3 seasons ago. I was never really happy with the R16 because the design of the slider induced a lot of chucking during stops and starts. The tolerances between the rollers and rails were so bad you could literally move the slider up and down a good 1/4 to 1/2" on the rails without a trailer attached to the hitch. Curt introduced the new S20 and claimed that it eliminated almost all chucking, so I thought I'd give it a try. The tolerances on the slider rails on the S20 are much tighter than on the R16. After our first trip with the S20, I will say the chucking was significantly less. I know you can't remove all the chucking - it's inherent in a 5th wheel hitch. But I am pretty pleased with it at this point. The reason for 4 stars is that I'm disappointed(?) I had to buy another slider to eliminate a problem that Curt should have fixed in the first place.
