Video Transcript for Review of Redline - Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - 38N

Today we're going to take a look at the replacement 3/8" diameter nut for the trailer suspension u-bolts or 12" brake assemblies. Now this 3/8" diameter nut is designed for use with u-bolts, it'll help secure your trailer's axle to it's leaf springs. Or also to fit 3/8" mounting bolts on your 12" brake assemblies. Now when you do use this on a brake assembly, it will also require a lock washer, which we do sell separately on our website. It's part number 38LW, it's also listed on this product page as a related product. Again the size on this nut is 3/8" by 24 threads per inch.

The overall diameter, or the wrench socket size, is 9/16 diameter. Happen to pull a 9/16 socket, and you can see it's made exactly for that. Now this part is for a quantity of one replacement nut. This nut is also available in a zinc finish if you need, it's part number 38NZ, and again it's sold separately on our website. But that should do it for the review on the replacement 3/8" nut for trailer suspension u-bolts, or 12" brake assemblies..

I'm just nuts over this product. Seriously though thanks fro getting the items to me in a timely manner. I am on Evacuation Advisory for the huge Rim fire that is currently happening in California. I live just a few mile from the perimeter of the blaze. The fifth wheel is all loaded up and ready to go but I was having troubles with the electronic brakes. Now I should have tome to get these new ones in place if and before the word to evacuate comes through! Thanks again!

Replacing the brakes on a 50 year old FAN camper. After being assured that it had 10 inch brakes by another company"s "expert" because it has a 3500# axle, I finally received the correct 12 inch brakes from eTrailer. They arrived very quickly, and packaged well. The installation went almost as easy as the very helpful online video showed. Only difference was I had to slightly tighten the brakes to slide the hub over them, even though they are self-adjusting once in service. I have never owned or worked on a trailer before, and the installation was relatively easy. Thank you to George J for the followup email within 24 hours of delivery.

by:

Nuts and bolts are nuts and bolts but I can report that the self-adjusting brakes have worked well on our two-thousand mile trip this summer through the mountains of Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. They stop straight and true and don't seem to fade on those long down grades like the infamous "Cabbage Hill" near Pendelton Or.

The whole order was perfect. I'm rebuilding the running gear on a1976 3 horse slant then remodeling the whole trailer by converting the trailer into a communications trailer for HF radio for disaster response. Front area will be living quarters. I am in our State Guard as a radio operator and also in county emergency management. This trailer will be my shelter and operating station when deployed to hurricanes and such. Since I'm spending my own funds on this, the good prices on etrailer are greatly appreciated.

US made product, great service from Erika who sorted out my information as to what type of brakes I needed, and fair price. I was very pleased with the follow up emails and the pro service that was provided. Never used Etrailer before, but will be a return customer. Thanks

by:

bought a brake assembly that needed fastening to the axle; these nuts, bolts and washers were just what I needed. Thanks George J.

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

by:

very good pricing, shipped fast . all items received in good shape 4-nev-r-adjust brake assembles with other needed hardware thanks etrailer.

by:

Carla M. worked with me to make sure we had all the right parts for my boat trailer. I am quite happy with her help.

by:

My package arrived on time just as I expected. I was a bit disappointed with the packing. Everything came in one box. The nuts were not in any bag they were just loose in the box. I ordered 10 but I only received 7. I think the other 3 fell out the bottom of the box that was not completely sealed with tape. You might want to put small parts in a zip lock bag. I ended up replacing new bolts one one side instead of both.

by:

I have never had a problem with anything I have ordered from Etrailer. I will continue to order from them when needed.

by:

Great service. Etrailer does an excellent job of filling the orders and getting them sent. Shery was really good handling our order. Thanks again.

by:

The parts have worked out very well and have not had any problems. Thanks again for the parts and good service.

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies For Dexter Axle 3500 lb And 5200 lb
I reached out the the manufacturer and found that they have two possible axles that meet that criteria. One is definitely more likely your application than the other, but I will give you both brake assembly options. For a 3500 lb axle, you will want the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. This will give you both the left and right assemblies. There is a sticker to help you with which assembly fits which side....

The Electric Trailer Brake Assembly, Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-7L-SA that you referenced will bolt directly to the 5-bolt brake mounting flange on your 7,000 pound trailer axle. The # AKEBRK-7L-SA is the brake assembly for the left hand side of the trailer. The brake assembly for the right hand side is # AKEBRK-7R-SA. These brake assemblies fit hubs that measure 12 inches diameter x 2 inches thick and will work well on your 7K torflex axle. I've attached a review video of this brake assembly...

  • Recommended Electric Brake Assemblies and Hub Drums for a 26ft Gooseneck Trailer
If your brake assemblies mount on a plate using 5 bolts, you most likely would be looking for a 12 inch diameter brake assembly like part # AKEBRK-6R and # AKEBRK-6L, but you could verify this by measuring directly across the center of your drum or the brake assembly. To recommend the correct hub drum for your application, I would need to know your current hub bolt pattern, as well as the bearings it uses. In order to determine your hub drum bolt pattern, you would need to measure center...

To determine which brake assembly you need, measure the width of your brake linings, as shown in the photo I edited for you. If your existing brake shoes measure 4 inches wide, the # 23-438 you mentioned would be an example of a good replacement for you if your existing brake assemblies use 7 mounting bolts (some use 4) and the diameter of the assembly is 12-1/4 inches in diameter when measured from the outside of one brake shoe directly across to the outside of the other shoe as shown...

Sounds like you are looking for the dust cover plugs part # BP10-220 for the brake assemblies # 23-105-106. The bolts these are designed to fit to are actually studs that are attached to the mounting flange of your current spindle like the part # 4-44-1. Because you mentioned you have a 4 bolt assembly, that narrows down your axle to an AL-KO axle and you will definitely want the brake assembly # 23-106-09 and # 23-105-09. • Replacement Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies for Lippert 7k Axles
Self adjusting brake assemblies have no downside. They are the preferred brake assembly style as they require no adjustments. The part # AKEBRK-7L-SA is the correct left hand side assembly for your trailer with 7k Lippert axles. For the right hand side you'd then want the part # AKEBRK-7R-SA. For grease seals you then would want the part # RG06-070. For bolts you'd need the part # 38N and for a washer part # 38LW.

Since the ProLube kit # XLPROLUBE2440KIT is only rated for use on 5,200 to 6,000 pound axles I do not recommend using it for 7,000 pound axles. Grease would be better for marine applications since a hub full of grease repels water and an oil bath hub could just let the water set on top. The correct grease seal for disc brake kit # K2HR712D is # RG06-070. It does have an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the outer diameter at 3.376 inches will fit the hub in the disc brake kit.
