Hey guys, today we're gonna be taking a closer look at the Progressive Dynamics 4,500 power converter with the charge Wizard on it in our horse trailer. The owner of this horse trailer was having issues with their power converter, making a humming noise when they didn't have a load on the power converter itself. So it made it really, really hard to sleep 'cause you have to turn all the lights off and then the power converter would start making like a really, really high pitch humming noise. So we replaced it. This was identical to their old one. There are a few updates and how the wires get connected, but we'll go ahead and show you all the details about it. more

A converter charger is going to convert the AC current that comes from the offshore power line or from your generator, and then it's gonna convert that down to DC power so that you can charge your batteries while you're at the campsite or at your house, and then also run those DC appliances without draining the battery all the way down. If you look at the side of your converter, you're gonna see that there's these little fuses in here and there's these little screws next to it. If you ever have to replace any of these, you're gonna need to make sure that you loosen up those screws, that'll allow you to pop out the fuse and put the new one in. And then you'll wanna retighten those screws, but you don't want to over-tighten them. And what these fuses are are your reverse battery polarity protection, so that's going to protect you in the event that you hook up the battery incorrectly. more

Now, this is going to be a really great addition to any kind of application where you need to have power going into your trailer whether that's an enclosed trailer or an RV, tiny house, whatever the case may be.This is going to be a converter, so it's going to convert AC power to DC, and it also allows you to use both at the same time. So, if you're connected to shore power, that's going to be alternating current or AC power. You might have lights in your setup that are run off of DC power, so it's going to convert that power over, so you can use those DC items, but still also yet use your AC outlets as well.In addition to being a distribution panel and converter, it also allows you to charge your batteries at the same time. If you're looking to upgrade the batteries in your RV, lithium is a great option. Those lithium iron phosphate or LFP batteries give us much more life than the lead acid batteries or the typical traditional style batteries. They're going to last up to about three times longer. That's typically about the ratio for the LFP to lead acid batteries and they charge quicker, they're lighter and they tend to not need any kind of maintenance at all. With the lead acid batteries, typically you would need to have a triple charge to keep them charged over the winter or whenever you store your RV, not the case with lithium. more
