etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 GMC Sierra

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2012 GMC Sierra, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the etrailer.com class three, two inch trailer hitch receiver. Now that we have our hitch in place, we're going to be able to use our truck to tow a variety of different trailers, boats, jet skis, whatever you might have. And something a lot of truck owners kind of forget about too, you can also use it for bike racks or even cargo carriers. That way we can free up some space in our truck's bed.Now one of the things that separates this hitch from some of the others on the market is the way it looks. Its finish is going to be a little bit different. It's going to have a matte black carbide finish and that's going to really stand up well to the elements. more

Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 GMC Sierra

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2012 GMC Sierra, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt class three, two inch trailer hitch receiver. Now one of my favorite things about this hitch is the way it looks. And that's kind of what sets it apart from some of the other hitches on the market too. I really like how our safety chain openings are sloped down and in my opinion, it just gives it kind of a neat look. One of the other thing that separates this hitch from any of the others, is it has a really heavy duty weight capacity. The maximum gross tongue weight rating for the hitch, it's going to be 800 pounds. That's going to be the amount of weight pushing down on our hitch. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 GMC Sierra

Today we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13322 on a 2002 GMC Sierra. The first thing you want to do is go ahead and lower the spare tire to get it out of your way. OK, we are looking at the drivers side of the vehicle here. At the bottom of the frame you can see we have got an existing bolt. We are going to be removing that off both sides of the vehicle, and we will be replacing that with new hardware. Just forward of that is an existing hole as well that we are going to be using a carriage bolt and block - just it down from the top of the frame, down into place. And then here on the bumper itself we have got two existing weld nuts. Those are going to provide the rear-most attaching points for the trailer hitch. And again, we are going to be using the hardware that is provided in the installation kit. We will go ahead and take our carriage bolt and block and that into place. The next thing we want to do is go ahead and remove the bolts from the end of the frame rail on both sides, and then we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. We are going to replace the bolts that came out of the frame with the new 14-millimeter bolts, along with the conical-tooth washers. We are also going to be using those bolts in the bumper as well. more

And I will go ahead and point out all the mounting locations which we are going to use for the hitch. There is an existing bolt here on the frame rail, and it is on both sides. And then we are going to use the bolt right behind it this is where we are going to have to install hardware. And then in the center there are two more mounting locations on the hitch, and these are already threaded, so this should be pretty straightforward. more
