Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Honda Odyssey - Curt C12031- Video

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Honda Odyssey - Curt C12031

Today on our 2005 Honda Odyssey we'll be installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver in a Class II with an inch and a quarter opening, part number C12031. Here's what the hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose accessories for your hitch, such a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately two and a half inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately thirteen inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with, we'll go ahead and install our safety strap. This will support the exhaust once we remove two exhaust hangers so we can gain access to our weld mounts on the passenger side. Now that our safety strap is in place, we'll go ahead and use a little spray lubricant and a pry bar to work the two exhaust hangers off. Once the exhaust hangers are loose, we can go ahead and lower the exhaust down enough to give us a little bit more access to our two weld nuts on the passenger side. We'll be using a total of four weld nuts, two weld nuts on each side and one carriage bolt and spacer block that will be fish wired in on the driver's side. We'll go ahead and clean the weld nuts out using a bit of spray lubricant and a half inch nylon tube brush, which is part number 814092. Once we have all four of the weld nuts cleaned out now we can go ahead and use our fish wire to put our carriage bolt and spacer block into place. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 1999 Honda Odyssey

Today on this 1999 Honda Odyssey we are going to be installing part number 87479. This installation will also apply to part number 75270. The first thing that we are going to need to do is we are going to have to lower the exhaust from the exhaust mount in the rear of the vehicle on the passenger side and the one up towards the middle which is the second to last one. And it helps to have a strap to mount on the bottom of the vehicle, underneath the exhaust, to hold it up to keep from damaging the rest of the exhaust further up from the vehicle. So, if you can not find any mounting spots for your strap, you can probably just go ahead and use the existing rear springs. You want to just loosen it up enough to where you have a little bit of play so you can at least move around the exhaust to take it off the hanger. You can go ahead and tighten the strap to keep the exhaust from hanging down further than necessary. 0:50 more

And then over here on the passenger's side, we have the same two weld nuts that are also going to provide the attaching points. And you can see, we do have the exhaust in the way, so we are going to want to lower that down first. To do that, we are going to remove it off of the rubber hanger here at the rear position and then here at the more forward position, almost in the middle of the vehicle. more
