Kuat Sherpa Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2011 Honda CR-V

Today weve got a 2011 Honda CRV and were going to be test fitting the Kuat Sherpa hitch mounted bike carrier, part number s102. To mount the carrier to the vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch, well line up our hitch pin holes and well use the hand knob at the end of the shank to tighten down our anti-rattle device. Next well go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about 13 inches of clearance from the bottom of the bike rack to the ground, weve got about two inches of clearance between the closet part of the carrier and the closet part of the vehicle, overall weve added about 14 inches of length to the vehicle when the carrier is folded up. Now we want to check for rear vehicle access, well pull the release level at the base of the bike rack and tilt it down flat, well open the cargo door of our Honda CRV to make sure we can still access the area even with the bike rack installed. Now we can go ahead and load up a bike, well open the ratcheting arm and extend it all the way out, well also undo the wheel strap of the cradle closest to the vehicle, well pick up our bike, sit it into the wheel tray and secure it first using the ratcheting hook up front, well place it on the tire just ahead of the front brake caliber. more
