Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Mazda CX-5

Rob: Hey, everybody. It's Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the CURT class 2 custom-fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2019 Mazda CX-5. Now I know everybody wants to see what it's going to look like on their vehicle, we can go over some of the features, but if you do stick around to the end of the video, we are going to go over the installation process so you can have the confidence to do it at home. Our CURT hitch is a class 2, so it's going to give us that inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening and as you can see, it has a really clean look on the car. We don't have a big bar sticking underneath, and that's because the cross tube is going to be hidden behind the bumper, and the only thing we are going to see is the receiver tube sticking out. Now, since it is a class 2, it does have a somewhat smaller receiver tube so there's a smaller footprint and again it's a little bit less conspicuous than the larger hitches on there. Now, usually when people think of a trailer hitch, they automatically think of pulling a trailer, and you absolutely can. You can put a ball mount in there and easily tow a trailer with your CX-5. more

Now I know everybody wants to see what it looks like and go over some of the features. But if you do stick around to the end of the video, we are going to show you how to go through the installation process so you can have the confidence to do it at home. I think our hitch here does have a really nice clean appearance to it. And that's mainly because of the cross tubes hidden behind the bumper here. So we're not going to have a big bar hanging down below, taking away from the aesthetics of our Mazda. more

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Mazda CX-5, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt class three trailer hitch receiver. So I really like this hitch, mainly for a couple of different reasons. The first one being, in my opinion, I think it's going to look pretty good. For the most part, it's going to be completely hidden and kind of just blend in to the back of your CX-5.The hitch is also going to be really versatile. Since it has this two inch by two inch opening, it's going to work with a ton of different types of accessories. more

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. today on our 2020 Mazda CX-5, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CURT Class Two Trailer Hitch Receiver. Since this hitch does have these smaller inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening, this is going to work great for those of you that already have this accessories that'll fit it, or it'll work too if you really only plan on using the hitch for those accessories like bike racks, or maybe even smaller cargo carriers. So one thing I do really like is how the hitch is going to look on the back of our Mazda. For the most part, it's going to be completely hidden. Really the only thing you're going to be able to see is the receiver tube opening. more

Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Mazda CX-5 C13315

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer today on our 2019 Mazda CX-5, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt trailer hitch receiver. But what I really like about this hitch is that for the most part, it's going to be completely hidden. Really the only thing you're going to be able to see is a receiver tube opening and it's almost going to look like it's part of your car. Now, what kind of separates us is the finish. It's going to have more of a gloss black finish, and in my opinion, it stands out a little bit more. But if that's the look you're going for, then this'll be a great choice for you. Many of our CX-5 customers plan on using their hitch for accessories like cargo carriers and bike racks, let's get to work really good for those and that's really because it's going to give us a good bumper clearance. So what I mean by that, the end of the receiver tube opening is going to sit just behind our bumper and really give us a space we need to use our folding accessories without having to worry about them contacting the back of our Mazda. So this is a class three hitch, so it's going to give us a 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening and a reinforced collar for extra strength. It's going to have the standard 5/8 size pin hole. more

Now a hitch can be good for a lot of different things. We can put a cargo carrier in here, make a little bit more room on the inside of our CX5. But if we want to hit the trails with some friends, put a bike rack in there and take some bikes with us or if we need to move a camper, a trailer or even a jet ski trailer, go down to the lake, we can put that in there. Now these do not come with the hitch, but you can pick them up etrailer.Com, along with some locking devices and anti-rattle devices to make sure your accessories are secure and they're not going to move around inside the hitch, making a lot of noise. Now if you are going to be towing a trailer, you need a spot to hook up your safety chains. In here we have a plate style welded to the bottom and we've got plenty of room to get most size hooks on or off.Now if you're looking for a hitch for your Mazda, you want to make sure that it's going to be up to the task that you put it to, regardless if it's going to be towing a trailer or carrying some gear in a cargo carrier. So as far as the weight rating goes, our hitch is going to have a 600 pound tongue weight. more

On the end of our receiver, you find this collar that's welded on, giving us a nice clean look and to help improve the strength of the receiver opening. Welded onto the bottom are our tubular steel safety chain loops, and these are quite nice because even though this is a Class I hitch and they are kind of small, you can still easily clip on even a very large hook like this one. This hitch features a 200-pound max tongue weight rating, which is the amount forcing down, and a 2,000-pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Curt

Speaker 1: Today on this 2016 Mazda CX-5, we're going to review and install the Curt trailer hitch, part number C12170. Now, this is one of the smaller hitches that you can put on your CX-5, and it's great for a variety of applications. First off, it's a trailer hitch, so if you've got a real light-duty trailer, some single axle trailer with 12" wheels on it, this would be a perfect match for that kind of trailer. Also, if you're not going to be pulling a trailer, this is going to be great for a bicycle rack. This 1 1/4" size does lend you up to a variety of bicycle racks, and up to four bikes carrying capacity, in some cases. Also, if you run out of room inside your vehicle, and you need to use a cargo carrier, this will work with a variety of those as well.As you can see, not much is showing on the hitch. All we have is our 1 1/4" opening right here, and our safety chain loops. more
