Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we have a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, and we're going to be testing out the Curt Echo wireless brake controller. These are going to be ideal just because we don't have to have anything on the inside of our dash or by our feet when we're driving. It just plugs in and syncs to your phone, so you don't really have to worry about forgetting anything. And it really is just as simple as just plugging it in, downloading an app on your phone and sinking it up.So the Curt Echo is going to be a proportional braking system and basically what that is, the pressure you put on the brake pedal is going to match the pressure back here on your tire. more

Tekonsha Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Volkswagen Touareg 39510

Hi there, Touareg owners. Today in your 2014 Volkswagen Touareg, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Tekonsha's Voyager Brake Controller. The Voyager is going to be a great entry-level brake controller. It's a proportional brake controller, which is going to feel better than your time-delay brake controllers that are available out there. What proportional means is that it has an inertia sensor inside, so it detects the momentum of the vehicle as it's stopping, and it uses that momentum that it's detecting coming to a stop to determine the output signal to your trailer brakes to appropriate apply those so that way it matches the braking force of your vehicle. Our brake controller has two knobs on it. The right knob is our gain adjustment, which will allow us to adjust the sensitivity of the output to our trailer, and the knob on the left side is for adjusting the level. You only use this when you first set it up. more

The Conscious Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller is going to be a premium brake controller that is proportional, and a slew of extra features that many controllers don't have.Being proportional is a big thing because proportional brake controllers are smoother in their application than other models such as time delay. It's proportional using an inertia sensor inside of the brake controller that detects the vehicles momentum. So, as it detects this vehicle coming to a stop, it knows how quickly the vehicles coming to a stop, and it can appropriately apply the trailer brakes to match the vehicle. You can adjust the sensitivity to further fine tune how the brakes are applying on your trailer. This is often needed. more

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at ETrailer.com. Today on our 2017 Nissan Frontier, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller in conjunction with the Tekonsha plugin wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Nissan and Infiniti. My favorite thing about the P3 brake controller is how many settings it's going to have. What I mean by that is if you hold down this button for a couple seconds, you can actually set pre-programmed settings for five different trailers. That way if you tow a rather large trailer one day, you can set it and save it as one trailer and then if you tell a smaller trailer and the next day you can simply go on your menu and click that trailer and go to those settings. Now, another cool feature I like about this is that it's going to give us three boost settings. Now what the boost setting does is controls how aggressive your trailer brakes are applied. more

Ryan: Hey, everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2016 Nissan Pathfinder, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller. What I really like about this brake controller is that it's going to be proportional. Now, what that means is however hard you apply the brakes inside of your vehicle, the trailer brakes are going to match that. So the trailer is going to slow itself down and you're not going to have to worry about your car doing all the work. And, in my opinion, the proportional brake controller like we have here today is a much better choice than, say, a time-delay style brake controller, and that's because the time-delay brake controller is not going to match how hard you apply the brake pedal in your car. It's going to apply the brakes at a specified amount and then ramp up from there. more

I really like this one because there is a bunch of different settings and options that'll work with many different applications. One of the things that I really like about the P3 is that it is a proportional brake controller as opposed to some of the other ones, which are a time delay. Shane: Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today you're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to walk you through the installation on the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller on your 2019 Chevrolet Equinox with the Factory Tow Package. Most of the time when we think about a brake controller, it's on a larger vehicle, or on a big truck that may be pulling big trailers. On a smaller SUV like this, maybe you have a boat trailer that has brakes on it, or maybe you have a camper, a small camper that has brakes on it. Maybe you're going on a camping trip and you want to make more room for your passengers inside, so you want to put all your gear into a trailer and that trailer has brakes on it.You've pulled each of these things and without a brake controller you have felt the trailer as you're coming up to a stop pushing on the car. It's an uncomfortable feeling when you're coming up to the back of another car that's already stopped and it doesn't feel like your car is stopping. Adding a brake controller to the vehicle is not only going to make your driving experience much better, but it's going to make your passengers much more comfortable during the ride. The trailer brake controller is going to be a proportional brake controller, so when you apply the brakes in the vehicle it's going to apply the same amount of pressure in the trailer depending on how you have it set, whether that applies the brakes a little bit sooner or a little bit later. more

It's a great alternative to your traditional style brake controllers. Where the installation is a little more in depth, and you have to wire things up, this is simply just plug and play.An advantage over the current compared to some of the traditional style ones, is you don't have a big bulky box screwed into your brand new dashboard, banging your knee against it when you're trying to get in and out of the car, and it's not a permanent modification. Everything you need, as far as your controller goes, is on your phone and an app.Since this isn't a permanent modification, it can be interchangeable. That way, you can use it for multiple vehicles, multiple trailers, for anything you might have. Whenever you're done with it, it's small enough to where you can just throw it in your glove box. This is going to be really easy to use, and it only takes a couple minutes to set up. more

Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Today on our 2012 Jeep wrangler Unlimited, we're going to take a look at the Curt Echo proportional brake controller. Now, the Curt Echo brake controller's going to give us a great solution. This allows us to have braking power sent to our trailer without going through all the major modifications generally associated with a brake controller installation. As long as you have a working seven pole with power to it, the brake controller's going to work out really well.It is proportional, so, if you're in a heavy stop situation or you're slamming on your brakes, it's going to send that same type of power to our trailer. Vice versa if we're in just a traffic situation, we're just slowly coming to a stop, it's going to sense that as well and it sends that kind of power to our trailer, so we're not overworking or under working our trailer. It really makes it much safer than the old time delayed systems that we had. Now, this is going to work for six volt systems, all the way up 24 volt systems and one or two axles, so it's a little of two or four brake assemblies. Now, the installation process for our Echo is very straightforward and simple. You want to take our trailer plug, you're going to plug that right into the Echo and just like on standard seven pole plugs you can see we've got the catch here on the lid to go behind the tab on the plug there so they can't be separated. At that point, we're going to place this right into a working seven pole. See our light Indicates that we do have power to it, we just need to pair it with our phone. Now, to control our brake controller, instead of having to mount something on our dashboard or make modifications up there, we'll just want to go to the Apple or Play store, download the Echo smart control app. more

Now the Prodigy P3 was going to be a proportional brake controller, which means that it's going to have a sensor inside the brake controller that's going to sense the slowing down of our van, and apply the brakes accordingly. That's going to be a big benefit over the time delayed ones, which basically uses a pre-set time that the brake controller waits, and then it applies the brakes up to the maximum power.
