Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Mazda CX-7 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2008 Mazda CX7 we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 75512. Here's what this hitch is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, overall it's pretty well hidden. Really what you're just going to see is the receiver tube here, the safety chain connection points, and then over here is the bracket that's welded onto the crosstube that's going to allow you to mount up wiring. It's really nice, because if you're planning on towing a trailer on a regular basis that's going to give you a nice easy access point to be able to get to your wiring and not have to pull it out of your trunk or just have it connected down here. That gives you a good sturdy location so that you can always get to it easily. Now this hitch has a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening and this nice welded-on reinforcement collar around that receiver tube opening. more

Also, if you've got those 1-1/4" accessories already, this will serve really well for that, too. The receiver tube opening has this reinforcement collar that's welded on just to help to give that little bit of extra security and stability. Today on 2016 Mazda CX5, we will be installing the Draw-Tite Class 2 inch and quarter trailer hitch, part number 36602. With our hitch installed on our Mazda CX5, you can see how well tucked up it is behind the bumper. The only thing you can really see hanging down is the inch and a quarter receiver here and our safety chain loops here, which are very easy to hook safety chains onto because they are not very thick and recessed, so you can hook on even the smallest of safety chains really easily. This hitch has a 300 pound max tongue weight rating and a 3500 max gross trailer weight rating. Obviously you will want to consult the owner's manual of your CX5 to figure out which number is lower. If it is rated for a lower amount than what the hitch is rated for, obviously you will want to go by that number. You don't want to exceed the limitations of your vehicle. For a couple of measurements here to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories you may need. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Mazda 5 - Draw-Tite- Video

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Mazda 5 - Draw-Tite

Today, on our 2012 Mazda5, we'll be installing a Draw-Tite Sportframe trailer hitch receiver, and a class one with an inch-and-a quarter opening part number 24874. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 4 3/4", and from the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground, is approximately 12 1/2". Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with, we're going to need to remove two plastic rivets underneath the rear fascia of the vehicle. We will be re-installing these rivets once the trailer hitch is installed. To remove these rivets, a large flat-head screwdriver, or a trim panel removal tool works well. You simply slide it in the center portion of the push-in rivet, pulling downward, which will allow the rivet to release from the rear fascia. Now, let's go ahead and point out some of the hardware mounting locations that we'll be using. On the passenger side, there's two holes that we'll be feeding a carriage bolt and a spacer block using afish-wire technique into the frame. To gain access though, we're going to need to drill out this small hole right here to approximately one inch. A quick tech tip: It's also a good idea anywherewhere you had to drill into the frame of the vehicle, to use a little paint to cover up any exposed metal to keep this area from becoming a rust area. Now, we went ahead and used a one-inch hole saw, and we still had to do a little bit of grinding on the side to allow the spacer block to fit all the way up into the frame. more
