Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today, this 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we're going to review and install the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, Part number HM56207.This will provide all the signals you need. Turn signals, left and right, your running light circuit and your brake lights. You can use a bulb and socket in some vehicles, however, when you use a wiring system like this, you don't have to worry about drilling a hole in the back of your tail light and worrying about sealing up and getting moisture inside tail light when you're done installing it.Before we get ready to install, we'll cover the parts and which direction all the wires go. Pretty easy. The T-connector to yellow wire goes to the driver's side and the T-connection with the green wire goes over to your passenger side. Of course, the 4-pole wiring harness is going to go up towards the front of the vehicle. The kit also comes with a holder for a 4-pole flat, if you're going to stay with that, some zip ties to hold the wires, some screws for the bracket and some dielectric grease to protect your electrical connections and also a cap for a 4-pole.To start off our install, we remove both our tail lights. This is our driver's side here. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Demco tail light wiring kit, part number DM9523010. Whenever we're flat-towing our Jeep down the road, it's very important that our light signals match up from the motorhome and the Jeep. That way if we're slowing down or changing lanes, everybody around us knows what's going on, and we can all be safe. Our diode kit is going to take that signal from our motorhome, and transfer it to our jeep, so that they blink and turn on at the same time. The really nice thing about our diodes is that it's not going to change the outward appearance of our Jeep at all, and the fact that once we have it installed, they're not going to have any maintenance. Unlike some of the magnetic lights that we'd have to hook up, run our wire every time we want to tow, we can simply have these already in and we just have the connection cord between our motorhome and Jeep to hook up.Our diodes are also going to make sure that it protects our vehicles wiring. We don't have to worry about any short-circuits or anything that may arise on the motorhome end, because our diodes are only going to let power go through one way. more

Speaker 1: Today, on this 2019 Jeep Cherokee, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Tow Ready Tail Light Isolating Diode System with a Four-Pole Connector, part number TR118821.Now, in conjunction with our diode wiring harness, we also use a Roadmaster 7 to 6 Coil Kit. That'll give us the six-way connector that we have on the front of our vehicle, and give us a seven to six-way coil cord. We'll have the six-way end going into the front of the Cherokee, and the seven-way on our motor home. This is great because not only can you run your turn signals, your brake lights and your tail lights, but you can also run a charge line kit to charge your vehicle's battery. If you have a braking system with an indicator light on it, inside the motor home, you can run the indicator light wire through the six-way connector, through one of the unused terminals, and run that as well. You can have all those functions at the same time. Now, our six-way connector is great because we have this nice spring-loaded door on it which not only will protect it from the elements when it's not in use, but it'll also help hold our wiring plug in place when we are flat towing our Cherokee. We can easily remove the coiled end just by using the two finger hooks here and pulling out. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, we're gonna take a look at and show you how to install the Roadmaster 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil Diode Wiring Kit for towed vehicles. Part number is RM-15267.Now this wiring kit's gonna be the perfect solution for towing your vehicle behind your motor home, and having the appropriate signals on the back. We've got our Flexo-Coil here, passes those signals through so whether we're hitting the brakes in our Coach, we have on our running lights or our turn signals, that's gonna show up on the back of the vehicle. The Flexo-Coil design will expand and contract as you can see, so we won't have to worry about it hanging down on the ground, but as we make our initial pull away from our vehicle when it's connected, it's gonna extend to the exact length that we need. Now the benefit of a wiring system that has diodes included will be that those are gonna isolate our RV from our vehicle so we won't have any type of back feeding. We can take a closer look at them now.So now what we've been able to do using our diode is take the signal from our RV, it comes in here, and the factory signal from our vehicle. That is then going to be converted to a single output, so whether the signal comes from the RV, it's allowed to pass directly through and go out and light our bulb. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Jeep Wrangler we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins Custom Taillight Wiring for Towed Vehicles, part number HM56200. Here's what our wiring looks like fully installed. I do want to mention, we did cut off the four pole end that came with our kit, and we decided to put on a six pole round that is sold separately. Our wiring is going to let us flat tow our Jeep and safely get down the road and have all the required lights such as our clearance lights, brake lights, and turn signals. This is going to wire up our vehicle to accept lights that are coming from our RV and control the lights on our vehicle, so that when we're driving down the road everybody will know what's going on, whether we're slowing down and hitting the brakes or turning on our turn signals. Our wiring is custom, which means it's going to be made particular to your vehicle, and the connection points are going to connect behind the taillights here. It's also going to have a converter box with diodes in it that are going to protect our vehicle's electrical system from any feedback or anything that may go wrong on the RV end. Now, when we're not flat towing our Jeep, our Jeeps light's are going to work just like normal and they're not going to be affected at all. more

Today on our 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we will be having a look at and installing the Roadmaster diode seven-wire to six-wire flexo-coil wiring kit, part number RM-15267, in conjunction with the Roadmaster battery charge line kit for towed vehicles, part number RM-156-25. Here's what our wiring looks like installed. You see we have a nice six-way round connector on the front of our Jeep, with a nice spring-loaded dust cover here, which snaps shut to keep the dirt and elements out of our connector when it's not in use. We have a seven-way RV connector that plugs in the back of our motor home, which adapts down to our six-way round right here. This will give us the umbilical connection that we need in order to transfer our lighting functions from the RV back to our Jeep, thus treating it as a trailer. The diodes that we are using with this kit make it so that we can utilize the vehicle's factory light bulbs and our tail-light assemblies. This way we're not adding an extra bulb to it, or using magnetic tow lights, which you see in a lot of vehicles being flat-towed behind motor homes. This is a nice, clean solution so you just have to plug one cable in between the mobile home and your Jeep when you're towing it, and you don't have to worry about removing lights and having a place to store them. more

We'll have our turn signals, our lights, and our brake lights that we need in order to safely tow our vehicle. Now, what I really like about this kit compared to other kits on the market is that it's direct plug and play. There is no cutting, no splicing of your factory wiring; no drilling of holes in your tail light assemblies in order to add a separate bulb and socket. This will utilize factory style connectors plugged in line with your tail lights to the vehicle's wiring harness, has diodes built into it so there is no voltage being back-fed into your vehicle's sensitive electrical systems, and it utilizes the factory bulbs so it looks just like stock while it's rolling down the road. Now that we've going over some features of our Hopkins plug and play wiring kit, we'll show you how to get it installed.
