Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. Now first how it actually attaches to the rack, it's going to have three points of contact. We're going to have two straps up top here to the frame and one off to the side here. That's going to be an anti-sway strap to keep the bike from moving back and forth, possibly hitting the bike itself or the bikes in front of it. Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. We're going to have two straps up top here and one strap off to the side, which is going to act as an anti-sway strap keeping it from moving back and forth, possibly hitting the bike rack or the bikes in front of it. Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Honda Odyssey

Today in this 2013 Honda Odyssey, we're going to be testing the Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack. Part number TH912XTR. As you can see we already have a bike installed on the rack, let's go ahead and take a closer look. Now, how the bike is actually attached to the rack, we're going to have 3 points of contact with the bike's frame: we're going to have two straps up top here, and one strap of. One strap of to the side which is going to access an anti-sway strap, to keep it from going back and forth, hitting the bike rack and possibly the bike in front of it. Let's go and take the bike off and set it aside. Now once you remove the straps it's always a good habit to actually put them back in place because you don't want them flapping around when you're driving, you don't want to loose them while you're driving. Now a fact, once you get into situations in which you're in close court, such as parking garages or parking in general, these arms do fold down but before I do that, I'm going to go ahead and give you some measurements. The first is going to be how much distance is added to the vehicle once the bike rack is installed, and we go ahead and measure from the bumper. So, from this point down, we have about 27 inches. For ground clearance, which is going to be this point right here, it's about 10 1/2 inches, and then the closest point is going to be this gray lever here, that's going to be about 3 inches. Now, as I said earlier, these do fold down, you just go to this gray lash here, lift up, let it fall, and once you hear that click, they're secured in place. Now, at this point the only measurement that changes is the over all distance, which is now, with the straps all the way... more

We have our bicycle rack loaded up with our bicycle, we'll go ahead and take a look at our points of contact on it. Our main point of contact is going to be top tube of the bike here, its connected to it with a really thick pad on the hook that holds the bike down in place. Our next two points of contact will be at the bottom of the wheels. Let's look down here, see there is a ratchet strap that goes across the rim here, that has thick padding on top of it to grip different size wheels. These are removable if you need to. more

That is going to be the frame hook up here. Let's go ahead and take the bike off, and set it off to the side. Today on our 2015 Honda CRV, we're going to be doing a test fit of the Kuat Transfer Platform Style 3-bike rack. As you can see, we've already got our row bike up here so you can see and get a general idea of what it's going to look like once you have it fully assembled and your bike in place on the back of your vehicle. First thing we're going to do, let's go ahead and get a few measurements so you know your clearances and your tolerances as you're ready to get out on the road with your bike in place. Our closest distance will be our first measurement, from the back of the bumper to the front side of the rack, at about 6-1/8". Overall distance that we've added to our vehicle with it fully extended out in that platform position is going to be about 45-1/2" to the back side here. Ground clearance at the back looks like it's going to be about 21-1/4". Now granted you get 3 bikes on there and put a little bit more weight on there, that's going to vary a little bit, but those will give you general measurements when you're starting out. more

As you can see, the Transfer is a really nice platform style rack with aluminum construction. One of the things that really stood out to me was how lightweight it was, really easy to get up there in the car as opposed to some of your other platform style racks that can get really, really heavy. Right down here at the bottom you've got a grey lever. Flipping that in is going to allow us to tilt the rack away from our vehicle. even with our bikes loaded, gives us plenty of room to get this rear cargo hatch open and get stuff in or out of there that we're going to need. more

Let's go ahead and start off by getting a few measurements. Our closest distance will be our first measurement on the front side of the rack to the back side of the bumper at about 1-1/4 inches. Now do keep in mind this is on the furthest end setting and there is actually two bolt settings that you can place this one on so the other one will sit out further in case you have a mountain bike or something with longer handlebars. Our overall distance is going to be about 26-1/2 inches and our ground clearance is going to be about 12 and 3/8 inches.
