Best 2009 Ford F-150 Brake Controller Options

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at the best brake controllers available for the 2009 Ford F-150. Now, all of the brake controllers that we're going to look at today are proportional controllers. It's a newer technology available, and it really is just a lot better than what the time delayed systems used to be.Basically, with a time delayed system, it was pre-programmed when your brakes would engage. So you hit the brake in your vehicle, there might be a pause, before the brakes on your trailer actually engage. With the proportional controller, we don't have to worry about that. If we hit our brakes on our truck, our brakes are going to start being applied, and they're going to be applied in proportion to how we're braking our truck. So when we hit the brakes hard, we're going to apply the brakes more heavily. We hit the brakes lightly, it's going to sense that, and it's going to apply the brakes more lightly. So, not only do we have a safer towing configuration with the proportional controller, but it takes some wear and tear off of our truck, and off of our trailer, because they're doing equal shares of the work in braking. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Ford F-150

Today on our 2009 Ford F150, we'll be taking a look at and installing our Hopkins InSIGHT Flex-Mount Trailer Brake Controller, part number HM47297. We'll also be using an adapter, part number HM47845. This is what our brake controller looks like once installed. We've got our monitor here. The little red light there, that means I've got it plugged into a trailer, so you know you have a good connection if that little red light's on. Now, on my brake pull switch, the emergency pull switch, I'm going to pull that down and you can see it's sending voltage to our trailer. We have the F switch on the left side of that. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Ford F-150 22292

Today on this 2009 Ford F-150 regular cab, we're going to install a brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90195. To help us with our install, we're also going to use part number 22292, the Tow Ready Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers. We'll start off with that part first. Looks like we have power going to it so that's a good sign. Manual override says no trailer connected and that makes sense because we don't have it hooked up. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Ford F150

Today we are going to install a Prodigy Brake Controller, part number 90185 on our 2009 Ford F-150, and we are going to use the accompanying brake control adapter and show you how it gets installed. This is a little bit different from previous models. The plug for the brake controller is actually behind this tray right here. What happens is, this panel comes off, and then we get behind the tray - unscrew the tray - and the connection is right behind it. All right, what we are going to do first is go ahead and just take off this panel right here. And it is actually pretty easy. Just give a gentle pull on the bottom and just work your way up. And start on the right-hand side, so that way you can pull it out from underneath this piece here. When you do pull on this, this little panel here will come back toward you, too, and give you a little bit of extra room to pull it out. more
