It sounds as if you might have a blown fuse. You'll need to check the diagram on the lid of the fuse box under the hood, and look for a fuse for the trailer running or parking light circuit, and replace it.
Before plugging the trailer into the vehicle, you'll want to closely examine the running light circuit for any shorts that would have caused the fuses to blow. Start at the trailer connector, and examine it for damage. Trace the running light circuit (usually a brown wire) back to the running lamps, checking the wire as you go. Look for pinches wires or loose connections. Look for cracked or worn wire insulation that would allow the copper wire to short out on the trailer frame. If you don't identify and repair the short, you'll continue to blow fuses.
