Blue Ox Tow Bar and Base Plate Kit Recommendation to Flat Tow 2014 Jeep Rubicon Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
I want to flat tow a 2014 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with a Ford Expedition. The Expedition can handle the load. Are the Blue Ox BX1134 Base Plate and the BX7322 Adventurer tow bar the right choice? The literature focuses on towing behind a motor home and does not mention a large truck or SUV. Most of the tow bars appear designed to use with RVs. The Expedition has a HD hitch that will accept a 2inch hitch ball mount. Thanks.

First you should determine the weight of your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and compare it to the towing capacities of your Ford Expedition to be sure you have the capacity to do what you are planning to do.
If so, the correct base plate kit is the part # BX1134 that you referenced. The Blue Ox Adventurer # BX7322 would also work as a tow bar that will attach to a ball mount that has a 2 inch ball on it.
For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting I recommend the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Kit, part # BX8869, because it does not require cutting into the vehicle wiring for installation.
For braking one of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot System, part # BLU37TR. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
