Using 2-1/2-Inch Hitch Adapter with Older Blue Ox Weight Distribution Hitch
Question:
does blue ox not offer their 15k or 17k weight distribution kit with a 2.5inch shank? I have the older adjustable head 15k but there is a lot of slop with the 2.5inch adapter. can I buy the blue ox 2.5inch shank to fit my older kit?

Expert Reply:
Blue Ox does not offer a weight distribution shank or complete system for use with 2-1/2-inch hitches, only 2-inch. Introduction of a hitch reducer sleeve like the Curt # C45405 (that may require modifications for use on your Ford Super-Duty - see notes on the linked page) will inevitably introduce some additional play.
As long as your older weight distribution system is a trunnion type that does not use washers for angle adjustment then you can use an alternate shank like the 2-1/2-inch Reese # RP54977. This shank offers 5-3/4-inches of drop or 8-1/4-inches of rise.
