5th Wheel Hitch, Installation Kit, and Wiring for a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 w/ 6 Bed
Question:
I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD, 4WD Crew Cab, 153 wheel base, 6.6 ft. bed. Does the extra half foot of bed length effect my hitch choices? What would be your recommendations?

The extra 6 inches of bed length still means you need to look at options for a 6 foot bed. For your 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed, you just need a slider. It is only when the bed is shorter than 6 feet that measurements need to be taken and a sidewinder may be needed to provide clearance for safe maneuvering. We have numerous sliders to choose from depending on what you want in terms of capacity. A great fifth wheel hitch with 20,000 pound capacity would be the Curt A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch with Slider, # C16541.
Use the Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Custom Installation Kit with Brackets and Rails, # RP50064-58 to complete installation. With this kit, you will save a lot of time as it is custom fit and designed to fit the frame construction and uses holes that already exist on the vehicle. You could also use Universal Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit with Rails, # RP30035, but the installation would take about twice the time. I have included links to the instructions for both kits below.
For wiring, use Fifth Wheel / Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Wiring Harness, # PK11893-11932. The factory installed 7-way connector is not needed on your specific vehicle to use this wiring.
