Degree of Arc and Lumen Output of Optronics Galaxy Dome Light # 24004-7171

Question:

How many degrees of arc does the light cover? And how many lumens per light bulb? Is it more a flood or a spot light? Im looking to add a light or pair of individual lights to the inside of the liftgate of my SUV so when the gate is up, the lights illuminate the area behind the truck and in the storage space in the back. Surface mount would be best less cutting of plastic. If you can recommend a different light, please do so.

I spoke with my Optronics representative, who told me that this particular lamp would be classified as an area lamp. It's meant to function as a dome light in a vehicle, providing general lighting for a small area. Optronics was unable to provide the lumen or Candela output of the lamp. The bulb can swivel about 15 degrees from center.

The lamp is meant to flush mount to a surface, so to install it on the inside of your liftgate, you'd need to cut a hole for the lamp to sit in, which might not work for you.

Take a look at the Optronics # ILL22CB. This lamp features 18 diodes controlled by an on/off rocker switch, and is intended to be surface mounted. The lamp is very bright, with an 810 Lumen output. I believe this light would be a better choice given your description of what you're looking for.
