Can I Modify the Installation of Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 2" x 3" Trailer Tongue

Question:

Can the Fulton 2x3 fold-away coupler be installed by cutting the 2x3 tongue beam at the same angle as the coupler? Rather than cutting tongue bean straight across and add a few inches in length, cutting an angle it will slide further into the tongue beam. Thanks

We do not recommend modifying the installation of the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 2" x 3" Trailer Tongue, # FHDPB230101 in any way. I spoke with my contact at Fulton and he said improper installation or use of the hinge kit may result in property damage, serious injury, and/or death and will void the warranty as well. He added that Fulton's engineers are counting on the beam fitting squarely into the end piece and butting up against the stops in the hinge itself. It is just not worth the risk.
