Can D-Ring Be Used With Adapter When Flat-Towing 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

I am currently using a Reese tow bar like your p/n #63180 with a set of adapter brackets that attach to the d-ring shackle points on my Jeeps bumper. I would like to switch to a telescoping style towbar like the StowMaster that uses a ball hitch ...AND... I want to continue towing by my Jeeps d-ring shackle points. Do you have any adapters like this for the StowMaster tow bars ? Are the Stowmaster tow bar legs different lengths or does it just appear that way in the photos ?

I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster about your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. They told me they do not recommend using the D-rings when flat-towing your Jeep. They do not have the towing weight capacity that a system using base plates that mount to the frame would have.

The base plates I recommend are part # 1430-3. These will mount under the bumper on your Wrangler. These are not designed to work if your Wrangler is the 10th Anniversary Rubicon model.

The RoadMaster StowMaster Car-Mounted Tow Bar, part # RM-501 will work with the base plates and has a weight capacity of 6,000 lbs. I have attached a couple of helpful articles you can check out.
