Weight Distribution and Sway Control that Allows Backing Up for 2011 Nissan Armada

Question:

I am looking at purchasing a W/D hitch with Sway control that also allows backing up. Tow Vehicle: Nissan Armada Trailer: Forrest River 33foot Travel Trailer GTW:7500 lbs Tongue weight: 750 lbs Tow Vehicle additional cargo weight 250 lbs I believe the tongue weight max value on the Armada is 900 lbs. Should I size the W/D hitch for the total tongue weight of the vehicle or for the travel trailer. Please specify a model W/D to purchase.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. If that additional 250 pounds is not behind the rear axle of the Armada you would not factor it in.

If the tongue weight of the Armada maxes out at 900 pounds (consult owners manual to confirm) then you are limited to that (or to the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. There should be a sticker on the hitch with the capacities, whichever is lower, the vehicle or the hitch, is the max you will go by).

I recommend a system that has a tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,200 (even though you are limited to 900 or less pounds). A Strait-Line system, # RP66084, is an excellent option that includes dual-cam sway control and will allow you to back up. I have included a link to a video review for you.

For a ball use # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. I have also included some helpful links for you to the right.
