Availability of a Class II Hitch for 2007 Honda Civic Coupe

Question:

Can I get a hitch for a honda coupe ex 2007 class 2 that would fit the yakima hold up bike rack that I have? I have a hidden hitch class 1 installed but would not fit the bike rack..or are there any other alternatives to fit my bike rack to class 1 hitch? thanks

Your 2007 Honda Civic Coupe can only be fitted with a Class I hitch. This is because your Civic's frame cannot support the additional capacity of a higher-rated Class II hitch. As you have noted, a Class II bike rack like the excellent Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Platform Style Rack # Y02445 will only fit into the receiver tube of a compatible Class II hitch, but not your Class I Hidden Hitch.

The solution is to select a Class I-compatible rack. The link at right will show you all platform-style 1-1/4-inch hitch racks that will fit your Class I hitch. You can use the filters in the left-hand margin to narrow the results to those racks with the features and construction you prefer.

My recommendation is for a lightweight aluminum rack like the 32-lb Kuat Sherpa # SH22B. This rack features no-frame-contact wheel hooks that contact the front tire. The Sherpa tilts for access to the rear of your car, folds up when not in use and includes locks for both the bikes and the rack itself. This is a great choice for bikes without front fenders. If you prefer a frame-mount type then I suggest the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT # TH92BJ that also includes locks, steel construction for strength and which is USA-made.

Both racks will fit both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches for flexibility and both are covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

I have also linked an article that will help you select a rack that will provide enough clearance at the rear of the car.
