Can a Second Motor and Gear Box Be Added to Landing Gear with Single Motor

Question:

I have a 2009 Newmar Cypress fifth wheel. It has a center kitchen. With exsisting landing gear it will barely lift trailer to hook up. It has Bull Dog 6500lb capacity landing gear which is rated at 4K lifting . I have looked at Stromberg single motor units on your web and it appears to be same unit. My question is can I add a gear box and motor to mine to make it a dual motor landing gear?

The Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear Set on your trailer has a low and a high speed setting that you might check to make sure your jacks aren't in the high speed setting. If so, putting them in the low speed setting will give them much more lifting power. Check out the picture I attached.

If you have a single motor, you can't simply add the second motor and gearbox. On single motor landing gear there is a lead leg and a follow leg and the motor only attaches to the lead leg correctly. You would need to change out a follow leg with a matching lead leg and then you could add the motor and gearbox.

The bigger issue here s the separate motors still won't increase the lifting capacity of the jacks. Instead, I recommend replacing the landing gear with the Reese # RP500708 which gives you a higher capacity and the dual motors. These will attach to your current brackets.
