Is Convert-A-Ball Offset Gooseneck Adapter Required to Be Bolted to Underside of 5th Wheel King Pin
Question:
My cousin has a Convert-a-ball w/offset king pin adapter from etrailer on his trailer. He told me that the four mounting bolts holding the top plate to the king pin box was an option to install until you get the trailer home. Is it safe to travel the fifth wheel trailer with this adapter without installing the 4 bolts thru the top plate of the adapter to the fifth wheel pin box? Please advise on this. Thanks.

According to Convert-A-Ball, if the offset adapter is used, the hitch plate must be bolted to the underside of the fifth wheel pin box. The offset places additional stress on the coupling between the adapter and the king pin, which is why the bolts would be required.
The non-offset model, like part # CAB-C5G doesn't require the bolts, although using them can't hurt.
