Chain Hanger Recommendation for a Reese Weight Distribution System on a Trailer with Large Frame
Question:
Hello. I have an equipment trailer on my radar. Its well made with a 15k rating. It does have an 8 inch main frame which concerns me when it comes to using a WD system. Is the frame too wide to use the WD system hitch? Particularly the hangers for the chains. The trailer ball mount is adjustable from about 20 inch off the ground to 24. The tow vehicle is a 2011 F350 Super Duty diesel, SRW, CC, 8foot bed, 20foot tires. Its a beast at over 8k pounds with a very high GVW rating. Class 5 receiver, but with a very conservative rating. I have considered simply installing a heavier rated receiver, straight shank, and ball, but feel uncomfortable doing so having been using WD hitches forever even on light loads since it is great for animal comfort in trailers and enhanced handling qualities towing a very expensive race car. Thanks for your time and consideration.

If I am understanding your question correctly the issue you foresee with using a weight distribution system on your trailer is that the frame might make it difficult for attaching the chain hangers. We have just the product for this. You would want the part # RP58305. These will bolt onto the side of virtually any trailer frame and would work well for you.
The Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control # RP66130 should work well for you, but before you order it I would recommend you verify the loaded tongue weight of your setup.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.
