Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 Ford Escape
Question:
Will the Reese hitch model 37042 work on a 2005 ford escape

Expert Reply:
The now obsolete Reese hitch 37042 that you referenced was confirmed to fit a lot of vehicle, but the newest Ford Escape it was confirmed to fit was the 2004 model so it would not work for you.
Instead, you would want the etrailer part # e56AR. This is a Class III hitch with plenty of capacity that would work well for you. Check out the install video I attached.
For trailer wiring you would need the part # 118426.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included to the right that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
