Replacement Hub for Boat Trailer with 5-on-4-1/2-Inch Bolt Pattern
Question:
I need to replace a hub on my boat trailer that has a 5inch x 4.5inch bolt pattern but the hubs dont have any numbers on them. The outer bearing has a 0.75inch inside diameter and the inner bearing or what i believe is the inner bearing has a 1.25inch inside diameter. what hub do i need to buy?

In order to select a correct replacement hub for your boat trailer you will need to locate the bearing numbers from both the inner and outer bearings and seal, or take a precise measurement with a precision digital caliper to the nearest thousandth of an inch (such as 1.225-inches for example). Bearing numbers are the better option since they eliminate any potential for measurement error and will save you the cost of a digital caliper.
The photo linked for you shows the typical appearance and location of the part numbers on bearings, races and seals. It also shows the locations on your spindles where you would need to take the measurements if that is your preferred method.
You'll also need to know the axle weight rating; this should be indicated on a sticker on the axle or it may be available from the trailer manufacturer if you provide them with the trailer's VIN number.
Once you know your axle rating and bearing and seal part numbers you can select a pair of replacement hubs that have the correct 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern, a suitable weight rating for your axle and the same bearing and seal set.
If for example, your hubs use inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing number # L44649 and the axles are rated for 3500-lbs and have E- Z Lube spindles then the idler hub you reviewed, part # 84545UC1-EZ, is a correct replacement.
It is recommended to replace both hubs at the same time to ensure that you will not have to soon repeat the replacement process. The linked article and video will give you help with that process.
We also offer a handy bearing packer tool, part # L70025, for which a video is also linked. With this you can use a grease gun like # 30-800 along with a grease cartridge # L54FR.
