Creaking Sounds After Installing a Trailer Hitch on a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
Question:
Hello, First of all, I am very happy with your service and happy with the Hitch. Theres just a small problem. There seems to be a Creeky, Squeaky sound coming from the hitch area. I never had it before until I installed it. I cant seem to pin-point what is causing the sound. Are you familiar with any similar complaints? And if so, do you know what I can check and do? Thanks!!! 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

The first thing you will want to check is the hardware used to install the trailer hitch on your 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. If the hardware is not properly torqued down to the specifications indicated in the instructions (linked to the right for reference) then that could be the issue.
The hardware has to be torqued to the specifications. Too loose and the hitch can come off. Too tight and it can damage the hitch and vehicle frame.
If the hardware is torqued properly then you might be hearing some part of the exhaust rubbing against the hitch. This can usually be fixed easily by bending or relocating an exhaust hanger. I have included a link to the right that should help.
