Best Way to Access Reverse Lamp Circuit When Installing Hopkins Smart Hitch Back-Up Camera System
Question:
I have watched several install videos on this camera and I havent seen anyone run a wire to the reverse light. Only wiring they do is attaching the 7 prong t into the 7 prong wiring harness on the truck. Do you attach a wire to the reverse light on the truck?

Expert Reply:
Actually, by plugging inline between the vehicle wiring harness and the 7-way, the camera system gains access to the reverse light circuit. If the vehicle doesn't have a 7-way trailer connector, the connector can be cut off and the camera can be hardwired by tapping the red wire into the reverse light circuit, and grounding the black wire.
