How to Install the Bargman Taillight Assemblies part # 47-84-008

Question:

Do you possibly have some written instructions on EXACTLY what items connectors, shrink-warp, etc. that might be needed to replace my existing taillights with the new set I just ordered? I have NOT taken my existing lights off yet, and I am sure that would help immensely in knowing how to hook up the new ones. Just asking if perhaps you have any written instructions for a novice such as I. Thanks.

I don't have a set of installation instructions for the # 47-84-008 that I can show you, but I can walk you through the installation.

What you will need to do is first remove the current taillights you have on your trailer. Remove any screws from the assembly and pull it out. Next you will need to cut the wires that ran from the old assembly. Try to note if you can what the functions of the wire are. This may not be possible but if so it will help to wire up the new assembly.

Next you will need to determine the functions of the wires from your trailer wiring. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires to determine which circuit carries what taillight function. Check out the video to the right I attached to get the idea how this is done. You will need to be connected to a tow vehicle.

Once you know what each wire from your trailer's wire does you will need to wire it accordingly to the # 47-84-008. The green wire will be for the running lights, the black wire from the side of the assembly with the red only lens will be the stop/turn signal circuit, the other black wire would be for reverse lights, and the white wire would be the grounds.

To make these connections you could use butt end connectors like the # DW05714. I would recommend ordering more than you think you will need. For shrink wrap you would want part # DW04367.

I also attached an FAQ article on trailer wiring for you to check out.
