Installing Trailer Brake Controller on 38 Foot Motorhome
Question:
I have a 38 ft. motorhome with a 4 wire trailer connection already wired. I want to add a brake controller function. I will be pulling a Big Tex car hauler. I assume the controller will include a brake wire and a battery wire. What size wire should I be adding?

In order to install a brake controller on your motorhome, you'd first need our brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7. Due to the length of your motorhome, I'd recommend an extra 30 feet of wire, part # 10-2-1. The kit includes everything else needed to install the controller, including the adapter to convert the 4-pole to a 7-way, as well as hardware and circuit breakers. The wire included with the kit, and the extra you'd purchase is 10 gauge duplex cable. You'll also need a brake controller if you haven't chosen one yet. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 part # 90885 is what I usually recommend, because it's so easy to use.
I'll link you to instructions for the # ETBC7, as well as to an installation video. The video shows a controller being installed on a different motorhome, but the procedure for yours would be very similar.
