New Hubs Do not Fit Over Brake Shoes On Trailer
Question:
Recently purchased these hubs for replacements and received proper hubs. However they will not fit over brake shoes. Do they need to be turned before installing? Any suggestions?

Expert Reply:
If the hub you are replacing has 8-247 stamped on it as you mentioned, the part # 8-247-50UC3-EZ, should be the correct replacement.
You mentioned the hub will not fit over the brake shoes. You should not need to turn the drums to make the new hub fit. Are the brake shoes new on your system, and are they adjusted properly. You will need to turn the adjusting star wheel to move the shoes in or out for adjustment. I have attached a video that shows how brakes are installed, and at about the 4-1/2 minute mark you can see how brakes are adjusted.
If these are brakes that you had, you will want to make sure they are in good shape and they are not damaged in any way. If the brakes are new, they may be a bit thicker than older shoes and may be causing the issue.
