Optronics 55-Watt Halogen Area Light QH16CTS Not Working with AC 110 Volt to 12 Volt DC Converter  

Question:

I have 110volt-12volt convertor that has 5.8 amp max capability,with 5 amp fuse in it...hooked 55watt halogen 12volt light that uses 4 1/2 amps and light doesnt work.whats wrong?

This may seem obvious, but have you grounded the light? In the case of halogen light # QH16CTS the black wire is ground into the hardware and the red is the power wire.

Sometimes AC to DC converters will not put out the correct voltage. Twelve volt systems are actually slightly higher than 12 volts, usually 12.8 volts. If your converter is not putting out the right voltage then that could be a problem too. You can check its output using a multimeter such as # PT89ZR.

Also, and I am sure you have probably already checked this, but make sure the fuse in the converter is good. It is also possible that something happened to the bulb. It takes an H3 bulb.
