How To Pick out a Replacement Hub For a Boat Trailer

Question:

I dont have the pontoon boat and trailer yet so I cant pull the bearings and seals to get the numbers . Im trying to figure out if this is the correct hub -so I will have a spare on the hour trip home with the combo . I called bass pro shop and she says that Red neck trailer parts has it and the part number is # 84555. My concern is that the rims on the trailer are 5 x 5 1/2 odd size and have a 10 inch rim , your tire sizes for this hub doesnt have 10 inch listed ? but does have the 5 x5 1/2 listed - will this hub work for the 10 inch rim . thank you , The grease cap for this axle is 1.986 , so the bearing buddy 1.98 will work or not , thank you , This is my first boat and trailer .

Until you can verify that the hub on your trailer is a Trailer Hub Assembly # 84555UC1 I cannot recommend you go ahead and purchase this hub as a replacement. Unless the trailer you have currently has a hub problem you really wouldn't need to worry about having a back up for the 1 hour drive with the trailer back to your home.

What I would do is inspect the trailer before you purchase it to make sure the hubs are in decent shape. If so, buy the trailer and wait till you get home and can get the hub off before you go and try and have back up hub picked out. Without pulling the hub of your trailer there is no way to know what you have.

Once you do you can use either the spindle measurement or the bearing numbers to pick out the correct hub. See the picture I attached for more info.
