7-Way, Brake Controller and Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2014 Toyota Highlander

Question:

What would you suggest for weight distribution for a 2014 Toyota Highlander XLE with 5000lbs tow capacity and a Forest River 179 R-Pod. Also what do I need to go from the four pin to a seven pin connection. What do you suggest for brake controller? Thanks,

First let's start with wiring. Everything you need to convert your 4-way to a 7-way and install a brake controller on your 2014 Toyota Highlander XLE is included with the part # ETBC7. I attached an install video plus installation instructions for you to check out.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Once you know your loaded tongue weight check out the link I attached to the right that shows all of the WD systems we offer. Select your tongue weight from the facet on the left of the page and all of the properly rated systems will be listed for your setup. Personally I like the Reese Strait-Line Series as it has the only sway control system on the market that works to prevent sway before it starts.
