7-Way Trailer Connector for 1996 Airstream Travel Trailer
Question:
Is it compatible with Airstream 1966 trailer connector?

I do not have dependable reference material showing exactly which trailer connector a 1966 Airstream might've used, but the most simple solution in your case would be to remove the existing plug and replace it with one that's compatible with the much more common 7-way blade connector, which is what most manufacturers use as original equipment on later model trucks.
You can simply disconnect the wires from the rear of your existing plug and install a plug like # PK12706. You'll need to use a 12-volt power source like a car battery and a jumper wire to apply power to each circuit on the trailer connector wire to determine its function. You'd then label each wire according to function and connect each wire to the terminals of the # PK12706 as shown in the provided photo. It's not certain that the wire colors shown would match up, since color coding is by no means universal. This is why we recommend wiring by function, not by wire color.
