Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed with a Slider Hitch in the Maneuver Position

Question:

Could I tow a trailer with the hitch slide all the way back in the manvering position

No, you do not want to tow the trailer with the slider # RP30051 in the maneuver position. This position is only for tight maneuvers where extra clearance is needed between truck cab and trailer overhang in order to safely make tight turns. For regular towing the hitch must be locked in the towing position.

Moving the hitch back puts the weight of the trailer behind the rear axle of the truck. This would cause all manner of ride problems if you were to tow it that way. Steering would be affected, the front of the truck would be pointed up, braking would suffer, and there would be additional stress on the truck and hitch.

I have included a link to a FAQ on 5th wheel hitches for you.

I accidentally towed my 5th wheel in the lock maneuvering position and it slid back on highway when I hit a bump. Would this do that or is there a fault in my new 5th wheel hitch!

If it's locked in the forward position even a big bump shouldn't do this. I would check to make sure the hitch isn't damaged because that's definitely not normal.
