Does the Weight of a Weight Distribution System Factor When Determining Loaded Tongue Weight

Question:

I understand when ing a WD hitch that I need to weigh the tongue of the trailer and add any weight carried in the area behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. What about adding the weight of the WD hitch itself, which will weigh 80 to 100 pounds? Do I add that too?

When Reese was at etrailer.com reviewing their weight distribution systems I asked if the weight of the weight distribution system needed to be taken into account when determining the loaded tongue weight and they said that was not necessary. So to answer your question no, you would not need to factor in the weight of your WD system when determining loaded tongue weight.

I attached a couple helpful FAQ articles to the right that you should find informative.
