Troubleshooting Pilot 2-6 Brake Controller that Only Displays Decimal Point
Question:
When brakes are applied it reads a decimal or period no numbers, and no brakes are apied to trailer

Expert Reply:
That means that the brake controller is wired up correctly, but not connected to a trailer. Usually this means you have corrosion on the trailer connector. First try cleaning the trailer connectors to see if that fixes the problem.
Next you would want to inspect the grounds of the brake assemblies on the trailer. Make sure they are attached to a clean metal surface. From there you would want to inspect the condition of the wiring from the brake assemblies to the trailer connector looking for any cut or exposed wire and fixing as necessary. Repeat this process on the tow vehicle side of the wiring if that doesn't fix the problem. Check the wires from the brake output circuit of the connector all the way back to the brake controller.
I attached an FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out plus an FAQ on trailer wiring.
