Wiring a 1992 Mazda B2600 With a 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness
Question:
I now have a 1992 mazda b2600i 4x4 and heres pictures of the wiring I have. the trailer has two wires ran down each side that connect to the lights and there is a bolt hole on the tongue I think to plug the ground wire from the harness connector to. If you look closely at the picture of my wiring connector on the side that has the 5 wires the green/red striped wire and the brown/yellow striped wires are touching each other as they enter the connector but the Yellow and green/red wires are shiethed together and they are the longest of the wires. but on the side of the connector with the four wires all the wires except the white are shiethed together. why is this and more importantly wich wich wire goes where? the trailer lights both have a green and a brown wire that come out of them, then each light is connected to the 2 black and black/red striped wires that run down each side of the trailer up to the tongue. Does the white wire on the 4 wire side of the connector go to a car grounding spot and the white wire on the5 wired side of the connector go to the bolt screw that is on the tongue of the trailer? If so then thats the only part of this wiring job I understand. I think the trailer wires are speaker wiring that attach to the lights so would it be best to run new wires down the trailer? If so is there a diagram that can you tell me the best way to go about this. do I run 4 seperate wires to each of the lights wires or do I run down the trailer to one light then jump from one light to the other for any wiring. sorry for all the questions but between my harness wire colors and the existing trailer wires and the wire colors of the trailer lights, I have become very confused and lost on what goes where. Thank you for all the help you can give me.

Your 1992 Mazda has a 5-wire system, and the trailer has a 4-wire system. If you do not have a 4-Way trailer connector on the truck, you will need to install one. The 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Converter, item # 119178KIT will convert the vehicles 5 wire system down to a 4-wire system for trailer lighting.
You will need to identify the taillight circuits on the vehicle with a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed. Once you have the proper circuits identified you will connect the white wire from the vehicle side of the converter to a suitable vehicle ground and then, on the driver's side connect the yellow wire to the left turn, the brown wire to the taillight and the red wire to the stop light wire. Next, on the passenger side you will need to connect the green wire to the right turn circuit.
Once this is completed check the connector with the test light to be sure it is working properly.
On the trailer side you should have a white wire that is connected to a suitable ground near the coupler. Most likely the bolt hole that you referred to. Next, connect the yellow wire to the left side stop/turn signal wire, most likely the green wire coming from the left side light, and connect the green wire from the connector to the right side stop/turn signal wire. Finally connect the brown wire from the trailer connector to the two tail light wires coming from the tail light assemblies, most likely the two brown wires you mentioned coming from the lights. If there are white wires coming from the trailer lights you will need to ground those to the trailer frame. If ther are no ground wires then the lights are grounded through their connection to the trailer frame and you will need to make sure that they are grounded securely.
If you would like to install new wiring on the trailer, I would recommend it if it is speaker wire, you can use the 35 ft. Wishbone 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness with 42 inch Ground Wire, item # A35W42B. This harness includes 2 wires for running the tail lights down both sides of the frame so you will not need to cross over from the left side with a jumper for the running light function.
