Tekonsha P3 Controller Stays On with Bulb-Out Sensor Adapter Installed

Question:

My Tekonsha P3 controller stays on and never turn off. Called etrailer.com tech support and was told the unit would turn by itself after 15 minutes of inactivate. Left vehicle overnight, the P3 was still on. The C57003 was plugged on all the time with the mounting bracket. I tested and remove the C57003 and the P3 turned off after 15 minutes. After many tests, with the C57003 on and off many time, I can confirm that the C57003 would cause the P3 does not go into sleep. The tow vehicle is a 2005 Porsche Cayenne with factory tow package. Do you think your P/N 20142 would be an alternative?

The same reason the part # C57003 prevents your P3 # 90195 from falling asleep would be the same reason the # 20142 would do the same. Both of these adapters have resistors installed on the circuits.

The only solution I could make for you would be to remove the # C57003 from your vehicle when not in use. Also, the LED display of your brake controller puts such a miniscule amount of draw on your vehicle that it would take weeks before it would adversely affect your battery life.
