Trailer Lights Not Working On Left Side of Trailer When Connected to 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Question:

I have hooked up one of your converter plugs to my 2000 mits montero sport, everything went according to directions from your site, my problem is that when i hook it to my boat trailer, i get lights and turn and brake on right side, but not left, i even tried a different vehicle and same thing so that pointed me back to the trailer. I created a new ground on the chassic of trailer from trailer plug, also at the light i get fire inside the socket on left turn and brake light, but the bulb NO, tried new bulb same thing, i took the light assembly off and hooked to a battery and it worked, im sure its a ground thing, am i missing something. When i ground the test light and touch the trailer it lights the test light, that shouldnt happen, RIGHT. I even cut old connections off on the left side and replaced with new ones. Its strange, when i touch the ground plate inside the light assembly, it lights up and also when i touch the outside sockets where the bulb goes in. I thought maybe the whole assembly was bad but it works when i hooked it to a separate battery, by grounding the light and touching one of the tits inside the socket. I used a entire different vehicle so i know its not with yall product, it the trailer. I was thinking if any one of the tail, brake, turn, wires when hot is grounding to the trailer maybe the problem. But the right side works fine. Any help would be great.

It sounds to me as if you have a ground problem too. You have done all of the testing and it points to ground so I think you most likely have a light mounting bracket that is not making ground to the trailer frame. If the brackets for your tail lights are bolted to the frame, take them loose and clean all of the rust and road debris out. Make sure when you bolt them back down that they are contacting bare metal on both the frame and the light bracket and that they are tight. If your brackets are welded to the trailer frame then on the left side the weld may be cracked and rust has inhibited the ground connection to the trailer frame. You have eliminated the light as the source of the problem so the problem must be with the ground on the trailer frame.
