Can Womens Bike Be Used On Thule Vertex Bike Rack Without Adapter Bar

Question:

Hi - I am considering the Thule 9028 and would rather not have to load up on accessories such as the bar for womens bikes so am wondering how accommodating the rack is for bikes which dont have absolutely straight bars. Is it possible to accommodate a curved bar even if it means that the bike will be at an angle? Thanks

Although I do recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005, when carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes, it certainly is not mandatory. You can load a bike with an alternative frame and see how much ground clearance you have. You may find you have plenty of clearance. I have attached a link to a product review video for the adapter bar you can check out.

The Thule Apex 2 Bike Rack, part # TH9024XT, should be a good fit for your 2011 Acura RDX. This rack has a lot of great features, such as being able to tilt the rack when unloaded to allow access to the rear of the vehicle. The bike rack also holds bikes at 3 points to help prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact. The distance between the arms outside to outside is 12-1/4 inches. This rack measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar of the carrier.

When considering a hitch mounted bike carrier, you want to make sure you have the clearance at the rear of your vehicle. You can take this measurement by using a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Hole the straight edge against the rear of the bumper, making sure it extends below the hitch opening. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the straight edge. That will give you the clearance measurement. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to take the measurement.
